Many years ago, the Blackhammers settled far out on the Frontier to farm and to live in peace. But they were not alone, other Dwarven families also moved with them. Among those families was one called the Bannocks. They settled up on the side of a ridge to the east of the Blackhammers. Now, the last of the Bannocks has risen and haunts the old farmstead.
Quest text[edit]
Tandor tells you, <player>, you have proven your worth to Istaria, have brought Brobbet's Justice to this forsaken place, and you are most certainly a friend of the Blackhammer's from here until the end of days. But I am afraid I must impose once more on you in the hopes of helping an old friend.
Tandor tells you, You see, my friend, many years ago my father led our family out here into the Frontier to find our way. Here he built the house you see and began farming the land. But my family was not alone in our endeavor. Other families traveled with us including one who's name you might recognize, the Bannocks.
Tandor tells you, Yes, <player>, the ridge to the east is named after that family for they settled up on the ridge. Perhaps you have seen the burned farmstead? No? Well, it is high up on the ridge overlooking both this valley and another to the south. From there, the Bannocks not only farmed but also mined and hunted the Gruok that roamed the hills.
Tandor tells you, Sadly, with the coming of the Withered Aegis the Bannocks did not survive. Intent on remaining and fighting the invasion, no matter the cost, they were slain and their house burned. I myself buried Tad Bannock's body by the pond he loved to fish in.
Tandor tells you, Which brings me to the point of the story... You see, I do not know why or how, but the arrival of the Withered Aegis caused many things that were dead to rise... The grouk you fought before, Dwarves who fell in battle ages ago, and even Tad Bannock. I believed his spirit safe with Brobbet, but I fear he is restless and serves a new master.
Tandor tells you, Please, <player>, return to the ridge and free my old friend, Tad, from his misery. His spirit wanders near the house he once lived in... Surely you will do this for me and for the Bannocks?
You have destroyed the ghost of Tad Bannock and have freed his spirit! Return to Tandor Blackhammer and tell him the good news..
Tandor tells you, Tad is free, you say? *he bows his head solemnly* A good friend, he was, but I could not bear to see him like that any longer. You have my thanks and that of my family. I feel I must give you something for your trouble and my thanks seem inadequate. Tad's favorite passtime was fishing, so please take this meager reward.
