Overview[edit]

The backup feature lets you backup your Istaria installation in two ways:

  • Complete backup: Stores all files from your istaria folder. This backup contains a fully functional Istaria installation including your personal settings. This is a slow approach.
  • Preference backup: Stores all of your preferences (including resource_override, log files and screenshots), but skips the Istaria files. This approach is much faster than the complete backup.

By default, the feature reminds you to make a backup every week. You can choose between the both above mentioned types and select a backup file name for where to store it. The backup file is a normal zip file.

  • Keep in mind that a full backup needs 2-5 Gb of hard drive space. It is recommended to do a preference backup which will be much smaller, and of course, it is created very fast.

You can disable/enable the backup feature and set the backup frequency in the preferences dialog.

Restoring a backup[edit]

Restoring a backup is quite simple. You'll need a compression program (such as 7-zip or WinRAR) to decompress the created zip file.

  • For the Complete backup, copy the contained folder to the location you'd want to run it from.
Normally this should be something like: C:\Program Files (x86)
  • For the Preference backup, copy the contained files and folders into the installation root of your Istaria installation.
Normally this should be something like: C:\Program Files (x86)\Istaria
    Overwrite possibly existing files.
