Frequently asked questions[edit]

  • Why do other players have different results when parsing the same fight?
This happens because the time entered in the Istaria log files is a local time. Since some messages from the Istaria servers are incoming delayed for different players, the DPS differs a little. However, the difference should be minimal.
  • Istaria Companion tells me it cannot find Java on my system. What can I do to fix that?
Please download Istaria Companion again, using the version including the Java runtime environment. If it still fails, please contact me.
  • Where can I send suggestions for the program to?
Open the 'About..' dialog from the main menu, there are different ways to contact me.
  • Why does DPS Parser enlist my character's name several times, and very often?
DPS Parser assumes a fight lasts as long as you hit, or get hit. If you're not getting hit for 30 seconds, DPS Parser assumes the fight is finished. If you then attack the next target a new entry in the table appears. Since DPS Parser cannot differ between players and creatures, your name seems to appear pretty often in an unusual way.
  • If I attack groups of same enemies, only one or two entries appear in DPS Parser's target list.
DPS Parser is not able to differ between multiple targets of the same name because of the logfile's limitations. Therefore it cannot parse them correctly in any good manner.
  • If I click on a blue link in Companion, Windows asks me: 'How do you want to open this?'
    Please read here.
  • Why does QuestSpy print 'Quest not found or no information available.' when I manually add a quest into the list?
This happens if the quest does not exist in the game. Maybe you've mistyped something in the questname. Please ensure you've typed everything correctly (also the caps).
  • How can I back up/restore my personal settings?
Open the install folder of Companion. There you'll find a directory named 'workspace'. Back up the complete folder and restore it once you've reinstalled Companion again.
  • When would I want to start Istaria Companion?
Istaria Companion doesn't mind when exactly you start it. You can do so before you load Istaria, or anytime afterwards.
