Kalas explains the missing parts of the story first gathered in Kion.

Quest text[edit]

Kalas tells you, Have you figured out what happened to me yet? No? Well, <player>, as I said: I had a wife that I loved deeply. It was a love that would not last; she fell terribly ill and died mere months after we married under Merrasat's gaze.

Kalas tells you, I simply could not understand why she was taken from me. In my grief, I turned my back on Merrasat's teachings. I felt slighted that she could take my wife from me after blessing our union... But this was only the first mistake of many I made after her death.

Kalas tells you, You might have noticed the spirit chains I carry. I cannot remove them, <player>. Every link of the chain was forged and made much heavier when I wronged a person in life. And oh--the people I hurt! I regret it all, but it is too late for me now...

Kalas tells you, Yes, <player>. The vaultkeeper did not lie. I turned into a horrid man. I grew bitter, and that turned into hate. I would repossess someone's home and effects without remorse, simply because they were short a copper on a payment. Worse yet, I made the payments so high that nobody could afford to pay them. Many families lost their homes, and I turned them out into the street without even clothes to wear. I was miserable and felt everyone should feel as I did.

Kalas tells you, I became wealthier in the process, of course, but trying to fill a void with money and anger only serves to make you worse off and never fills the hole.
