Nielenoss has discovered how to harness the power of the technology used by the Naka-duskael to carry cargo on floating disks. Using this knowledge he has expanded it with primal energies and can now create cargo disks that will fly and not weigh down a dragon. He is willing to teach this new knowledge to you.

Quest text[edit]

Nielenoss tells you, You are here, I suspect, because you have heard of me, yes? You are here to learn of my discovery. Flying cargo disks, yes? Good, and you will learn it all in due time. But there is much that you must learn of how the disks fly and why you are building them before you actually build them. Shall I continue?

Nielenoss tells you, Very good. First, you must understand how I came to possess this very valuable knowledge. You see, I am a scholar by nature. A follower of Helian, yes, but I am also one who eternally seeks knowledge. The type of knowledge does not matter, because it is the journey as much as the acquisition that I seek. And so many years ago I began studying the devices used by Naka and Dragon alike throughout the Empire. You know them well, I suspect, else you would not be here. Cargo Disks is what I speak of.

Nielenoss tells you, For nearly three centuries the Naka known as 'Gnomes' have possessed the knowledge of how to make these extremely useful devices. Oh, they have shared it with others, but it is a mechanical device and has little to do with primal magics. And so I have studied their methods and research for long years, first in the city known as Rachival and then later, after it was captured by the Withered Aegis, from my lair here overlooking the town of New Rachival below. These 'tinkerers' are fascinating subjects and the Gnomes in particular are some of the most industrious people we Dragons have ever encountered.

Nielenoss tells you, The automatons in particular were quite interesting. You know about them, don't you? Automated Gnomes built of metal and energy, they were constructed to fight the Withered Aegis. The one known as Gangaf, the Exiled One, conceived and constructed them. He labored for years and I watched from my perch, examining his work whenever I got the chance. Powered by energy from the Plane of Energy, if I remember correctly. Fascinating, they were.

Nielenoss tells you, And his plan was brilliant, but it was doomed to failure from the very moment of its conception. Use the Automatons to defend the city against the invading armies of the Withered Aegis, saving the lives of his fellow Gnomes. But there was a... miscalculation. Something he was blind to and caused his downfall. The automatons, you see, they failed to defend the city. Instead, they attacked its inhabitants! The city was near-destroyed by the time the undead armies breached the walls, its inhabitants already fleeing south towards Aughundell and then Tazoon.

Nielenoss tells you, But I digress. Gangaf, and his former apprentice, Versanto, have been subjects of my observations for many years. Versanto, who resides now in New Rachival has been my subject in recent years. He long chafed beneath Gangaf's tutelage. Both were brilliant as far as the Naka are concerned and they were often at odds with one another. Especially with regards to the automatons, many of which still roam the ruins of Rachival.

Nielenoss tells you, The construction of these automatons and the research notes by both Tinkerers began to give me ideas of harnessing the primal energies to power cargo disks. The automatons use power from machines and from the plane of energy, but we dragons do not separate the energies as the Naka do, we use the power of the prime, undiluted, with but few exceptions. It was merely a year ago with the return of the Master Lairshaper Relstaroth and the re-opening of the Gate of Embers that my opportunity surfaced.

Nielenoss tells you, You see, azulyte crystals are the key and they were not present prior to the return of Relstaroth and his apprentice, Balennos. Azulyte Crystals are able to focus and transmit primal and other energy with very little inherent loss and so they are the perfect conduit through which energy can be utilized for my purposes. After that, it was a simple matter of finding the right mix of components and finding the right type of azulyte. As it turns out, the standard kinds used in lairshaping just wouldn't do. But I discovered a new kind, a rare kind, known as Dark Azulyte that works very well for my purposes.

Nielenoss tells you, When the energy contained within essence orbs is applied to normal azulyte, the crystals begins to break down after a time, fracturing the crystalline structure and eventually the crystals turns into an un-useable powder. But Dark Azulyte seems to be able to resist the energy being transmitted through it for long periods of time. Oh, it still breaks down, but the energy seems to refocus it and it reforms into new crystals over and over continually. Which brings us to the present, Rascala, and to the subject of how to construct these cargo disks.

Nielenoss tells you, First, you will need some unfocused Dark Azulyte. I have found Dark Azulyte in many places across Istaria, Rascala, but it is most often found among the existing azulyte but in much much smaller quantities. Go and find 144 units of Unfocused Dark Azulyte. Bring it back here to me and I shall tell you how to begin to make a cargo disk that can fly. You might also want to return with at least 60 Dim Essence Orbs, returning with them will make our next task much quicker.

Nielenoss tells you, Ah, good, you found it! Well done. Now, unlike Lairshaping, there is no need to process this azulyte. The unfocused crystals allow the energies to enter the crystalline formations much more easily and allow the continual reforming of the azulyte to occur. The key to my cargo disks is to energize the unfocused dark azulyte with the energy of an essence orb. These energized azulyte crystals continually break down and reform as the energy flows through them and it is this process that allows my cargo disks to float despite the heavy weights that are piled on top of them.

Nielenoss tells you, Go, take this formula and create 12 Dim Energized Azulyte crystals. When you are done, return here to me so that I may inspect them. You will need to find a Crystal Shaper to process the crystals. It is doubtful that there are any near New Rachival, so you may need to travel to Dralk or Chiconis to locate one. Now, go, and leave me to my research.

You have received 144 Unfocused Dark Azulyte Crystal.

You have received 1 Formula: Beginner Energized Azulyte.

Nielenoss tells you, Back already, are you? Very well. Let me see. The rest of the cargo disk is quite simple; a metal-stone laminate, an imbued stone brick, and an engraving for the surface made from precious metal. Take these formula and practice these three components. When you have made 24 Bronze-Sandstone Laminates, 18 Imbued Sandstone Bricks, and 12 Bronze Engravings, return here to me.

You have received 1 Formula: Beginner Laminate.

You have received 1 Formula: Beginner Imbued Brick.

You have received 1 Formula: Beginner Engraving.

Nielenoss tells you, Ah, very good, <Player.> Now, here is the formula for the first of the cargo disks. As our society has been splintered by the Great Schism, I thought it only fitting that there be a Helian and a Lunus version of the disk. Using this formula you will be able to make either as you see fit. Now, go, and leave me to my research. There is much to learn from the Naka because they never rest and are tireless in their search for new machines, new knowledge, and new ways of performing tasks. Farewell!
