Talk:General Adventuring Guidelines

From Istaria Lexica

Added text to "How is experience calculated", based on my personal experience. I've been leveling a handful of biped adventure schools in parallel on Tamlis, rather than just one or two, and I have seen all the situations I've described. I routinely get xp over my school level, and when I can fight monsters over my adventure level (currently at 150% of my highest school level) I do get xp over the cap sometimes (probably dependent on the base xp for the monster, but I can't say for sure.) I do not know how to add a comment describing the edit, please forgive me. (As you can probably tell, I'm a wiki neophyte. I suspect this whole comment belongs elsewhere.)

Also: I'd like to remove the suggestion that you don't fight things over your level, since doing so is an essential part of effectively leveling several biped schools in parallel. However, would prefer to discuss it rather than just going ahead with an edit.

I've been going by the Istaria Reference chart for how much xp you can get per monster. After comparing the one here to that one, it looks like the Istaria Reference chart is wrong (and yours is correct). Still not sure why you don't want to fight monsters over your level, at least 'till you hit the cap. 98.234.255.130 07:18, 4 August 2015 (CEST)

The guide is very old and probably been done by some player who may not have been experienced enough to see the multiclass point you made. Feel free to edit how you think it's better. On the experience charts, Cegaiels version on istariareferece.com should be the most recent one. If you've seen differences, that's another edit to your score list :).
Commenting on a change is pretty plain and simple. On Wiki Editor, right above the submit button there is a 'Summary' line where you can enter your comment. This appears on the site history then. There's no need to write down everything, just do some hints on what has changed. People will understand, or contact you on your Talk page.

Yesterday, I verified that Cegaiel's version is wrong, and the one here is correct. Taking a multi-school druid/warrior 21/mage 18 from 7 to 12, my results matched the chart on this page exactly. I fought monsters near and above my xp cap (checked by fighting successively higher-level monsters.) I will make changes.
One problem, tho. Somehow, in my editing, I disconnected this page from the Player Guides listing, so that it no longer shows up on the Player Guides page. I'm not sure what I did.

Heya Daulnay, that is a small issue with Semantic Mediawiki (an extension to the wiki). The tables on Player Guides are generated dynamically with it, but on changes these won't show up in real-time often. In that case you can use the 'purge' tab on your edited page and the page containing the tables (in that order). Oh by the way, leave me a short message if you can't see the purge tab right next to the 'watch' tab. I forgot to test this for common users :)

I swapped the two entries at the bottom that link it to categories, and then it showed up. So all's ok.Daulnay (talk) 23:30, 4 August 2015 (CEST)
