Quest text[edit]
The source of the duskenwylves concerns me greatly, <player>. Werewolves do not spring from thin air! Nor do they simply make themselves... No, something is creating them by turning regular wolves or by turning captured travelers. Either way, we must get to the bottom of it.
However, fighting werewolves is a dangerous business. My platoon had a run-in with them some years ago and few of us made it out alive. Two of my comrades... Well, let us say that we could not allow them to return to town once they had been bitten and contracted the disease.
I acquired a small supply of a salve that will protect you from the effects of lycanthropy disease, for a time. I hear that Imperial Mender Medicus sells that salve now.
- And what about that forcefield?
Speak to Guard-Captain Bixben Lindnottin
Ah, yes, yes... you should speak to our Master Tinkerer, Versanto. If he can't find a solution to destroy this forcefield, nobody will.
Greeting, <race>. What can this Tinkerer do for you?
- Guard-Captain Bixben Lindnottin asked me to explore the old Fortress of Be'Ladok the Proud, but a forcefield blocks the path. He told me you could help.
Certainly, but I need to know more about it. Could you describe it to me?
- <You explain what the forcefield looks like.>
What did you say? It can't be...
No! It's impossible!
Game Feedback: Versanto is looking furiously for something in boxes filled with strange contraptions.
By Istara, my prototype has vanished! I was working on a forcefield generator a few weeks ago to protect the town from the Cultists... but I don't have it anymore! It wasn't complete yet, but I had made enough progress to create an efficient forcefield. It must have been stolen!
Speak to Versanto the Master, the Tinkerer trainer
But you are in luck.. I built it, so I know everything about its weaknesses. I know what I have to create, but I'm missing a component. I don't want to ask for his help but... could you find Gangaf Tagley in Dalimond and ask him if he would have a spare XT7 Motherboard?
Welcome to my shop. How can I help you, Gifted?
- I am looking for a XT7 Motherboard. Would you have any?
A XT7 Motherboard? What do you want to do with that?
- Versanto needs it to build a device to break a forcefield.
Game Feedback: His eyes narrow.
Versanto? Ha, ha, ha! This old fool always rejects my application to be an official Tinkerer trainer again and now he's begging for MY help? No way, he can choke with his own hubris. Nothing personal, <player>, but now go away: I have some work to do.
- New Rachival is threatened by werewolves. Are you going to let your people down?
What? I won't allow you to patronize me this way! Who do you think you are?
- A Gifted wanting to help New Rachival and the Gnomes.
Visit Gangaf Tagley in Dalimond for the spare part
Grrr... fine! Tell Versanto he'd better not reject my application next time. Take this darned motherboard and now, scram!
You are back just in time, <player>! I have nearly finished my machine and I just need to add this XT7 Motherboard. Did you find one?
- Yes, Gangaf had a spare one, but he made it clear you owe him and he told me about an application...
Screws and bolts! This idiot has some nerve to complain after all that he did... I will consider... but for the moment, I must finish this machine.
Let me place it on your chest. Give it a bit of time and you will receive a new ability to destroy that forcefield.
- ... are you sure about what you are doing?
Return to Versanto the Master in New Rachival
Very sure! My creations are the safest, you don't have anything to worry about!
Game Feedback: You notice many marks of explosions on the shop walls. You don't really feel reassured, but it seems you don't have the choice anyway.
Wait for Versanto's machine to give you some power
Game Feedback: Each second seems to last eternally, you start sweating, but after a while you just feel a small electrical discharge.
Speak to Versanto the Master again
See? I told you it was safe! You can now empower your attacks to destroy the forcefield.
[You have received the Forcefield Shatterer ability: check your abilities General tab.]
I'm glad to see you again, <player>. What did Versanto tell you?
- <You tell Bixben about the stolen generator and the new power you have received.>
Return to Guard-Captain Bixben Lindnottin with good news
Stolen? Here in New Rachival? This requires investigation! It isn't something you should worry about: my men and I can take care of it. You already have a more urgent matter to deal with. Tell me when you are ready to go to the Dusk Forest again.
