Ancient tombs are being plundered and relics stolen by the Withered Aegis. Paladin Geriad Batel has sent you to locate the tombs that are scattered about the Dalimond Peninsula. Scholar and Cartographer Leah Attanbar is helping you locate the first of the ancient burial sites.

Quest text[edit]

Leah tells you, <player>, Paladin Batel has indicated that he wishes to locate the first of the tombs, that of Borannis. I can tell you much about Borannis, but I cannot tell you where his tomb was located. For that, we will need to visit the Archives.

Leah tells you, Borannis was a king of the Barasavian Kingdom that ruled over humanity from 977 B.R. to 752 B.R. At the time, humanity was ruled over by the Dragons. Oh, they left humans alone for the most part so long as we provided them with tribute and food. But it was still a rough life. In 977 B.R. the grand city of Barasavus was founded where present-day Tazoon is located.

Leah tells you, Barasavus was a powerful kingdom, ruled over by mighty Kings and they had a large army. And in fact they staved off defeat by the Dragons for nearly two centuries. But ultimately they were destroyed in fire! Borannis was one of the last kings of that lost kingdom. Perhaps the last to have peace in his time, instead of war. That is all, <player>, it is time for you to visit the Librarian of Ages.

Librarian tells you, Ranger, quietly please. This is a place of study. Now, of what service can I be today? Borannis... Borannis. Yes! The king of Barasavus, I remember now. What do you wish to know of him? We know much of his life for his journals were spirited out of the city just before its destruction. Do you wish to know of his wife? Many claim she was the most beautiful woman to have ever lived!

Librarian tells you, Or perhaps you wish to hear about how Borannis returned from the Council Chambers one evening to find his young daughter dead from the bite of an asp. Have you ever wondered why there are no snakes in Istaria? Borannis' wrath against the asps of the Barasavus Desert was terrible to behold, or so the journals say!

Librarian tells you, The location of his tomb? *he pauses thoughtfully* Well, that is another matter entirely. Yes, I believe we have its location. Let me see... *he pulls an ancient scroll from a shelf, unrolls it and begins to read from the odd script* "South of the Sand, Round the Finger, West to the Raised Line, To Sleep Eternal". Odd, isn't it? I shall write it down for you.

You have received 1 Riddle of Borannis' Tomb.

Leah tells you, So, what have you found <player>? A riddle? Indeed. "South of the Sand". Yes, that must refer to the Barasavus Desert. And "Round the Finger" would mean the Dalimond Bay. It does indeed look like a finger! "West to the Raised Line". What could that mean? *she spreads out the map of the Dalimond Peninsula and begins tracing geographical features with her finger"

Leah tells you, Oh! Right under our noses! "West to the Raised Line". It must mean the Dalimond Ridge. *she traces the ridge on the map with her finger* See here how it runs straight like a line from south to north? And it lies west of the bay if you come around its tip. So, <player>, that means the Tomb must rest somewhere in or near the Dalimond Ridge.

Geriad tells you, Ranger, you have located the Tomb of Borannis? Good, good. You have done well! We shall soon embark upon our crusade and wipe them from the face of Istaria! Prepare yourself, <player>, for soon you leave for battle.
