Quest text[edit]

Valkoth tells you, Now that you are an adult, one of the abilities you are capable of learning is different forms of elemental breath. If you wish to gain this sort of mastery over cold, I suggest speaking to a dragon named Kelakhan, who resides in a cave near the western edge of the Spiritous Swamp. He is capable of combining elements which most other dragons cannot, and you will need his help for this task.

Kelakhan tells you, Ah, you wish to learn how to change your breath weapon to one of ice not fire, eh? I can indeed help you with this, if you are willing to gather the ingredients.

Kelakhan tells you, What I will create for you is a sort of potion, a liquid materia which, when swallowed, will mix itself with your natural flame and allow you to summon this new element at will. The ingredients are straightforward, but not always easy to come by; the potion requires a sample of the proper type of essence, in this case Essence of Ice. This is obtained from blighted creatures, in this case Ice Blights. I will give you a container capable of holding this essence until you return to me, but you must understand that not every blight creature has enough of the essence by which it is formed to be what is needed, so you may need to destroy many before you get the essence you require.

Next you will need to obtain the coagulant that will allow the refinement of the essence into a liquid form and I willcombine them into the necessary potion.

Kelakhan tells you, In this case, what I need is a Splinter of Ice Bone. These particular skeletons have bones which are nearly frozen already, and so can withstand the extreme cold of the Essence of Ice. The skeletons are found far to the north of the Istarian mainland on the island of Trandalar. Specifically you are looking for the part of the island that has become blighted and is called the Northern Deadlands. Kill skeletons and recover one of their splintered bones. You will know them for what they are, for the bones are bitterly cold to the touch.

You have looted 1 Splinter of Ice Bone.

You have located a splinter of bone. Return to Kelakhan with the splinter..

You have looted 1 Essence of Ice.

You have obtained enough Essence of Ice to fill the container Kelakhan provided you with..

Kelakhan tells you, You have done well. I hope attaining the ingredients was not too difficult. Now, the final component I need is Corvian Silver Bars. This can be refined into a flask which will withstand the extreme cold of the potion which I will make for you and protect your claws at the same time.

Kelakhan tells you, Corvian Silver is a rare silver ore once found on the Satyr Island of Corvus Now, I believe you will need to speak with a naka known as Bacharath at the Satyr Refugee Camp in Feladan. Once acquired, you will process it into bars, and then return here to me.

Kelakhan tells you, Ah, it's good to see more of our kind taking wing, I've been having more and more visitors of our type lately. How goes things back in Chiconis? Do you seek help in my area of specialization?

Kelakhan tells you, I am a sort of naturalist, or herbalist, I suppose. I am capable of giving instruction in unusual raw materia, and refining them into rare and interesting forms. Perhaps I'll be lending you something of a hand someday, to borrow a term from the smaller ones -- If you find yourself in need of a specialty materia, that is.

Bacharath tells you, Welcome, Scaled One. You seek Corvian Silver, do you? You have come to the right place then. I have acquired a substantial supply of it, prior to the veins going dry. I would be happy to provide you with ore and also the means of processing it... for a price! After all, I can't just be giving something so precious away! I suppose, however, that because you are doing this for Kelakhan, I can give you the formula for processing it from raw ore to bars. If you ruin any, however, in processing it, that's on your head and you will have to buy more.

You have received 1 Corvian Silver Bar (formula).

You have successfully created the silver bars!.

Kelakhan tells you, Excellent. You work fast, <player>. The mixture will take some time to distill, so I ask you to return to me in a few hours. Meanwhile I have a favor to ask.

Kelakhan tells you, If you could see fit to deliver a message for me, it would be greatly appreciated. I promised a dragon outside the Tower of Summoning an unusual sort of scale -- one capable of absorbing fire and transforming it into strength! Unfortunately I have not yet been able to locate the proper materials, it may take a while longer. Please convey to this dragon, known as "Breath of Fire", of my failure and give him my sincerest apologies.

Khalentaris tells you, What brings you this far north, <player>? A task for Kelakhan? Then he has completed my scale? No? A shame, I'd heard tales of such an item, and was hoping to receive news that Kelakhan had discovered how to create one. But, as he says, if the materials do not exist then there is little we can do. Please give him my regards and let him know that I appreciate the time he has taken investigating my fantasy.

Kelakhan tells you, Did you find Breath of Fire, <player>? Yes? He was not angry at my failure? That is a relief. I thank you for traveling so far to carry my message. But, alas, I am sure you are tired of hearing about my problems and wish to hear more about yours. And you have impeccable timing. I filled the flask just a few minutes ago -- that should be just long enough for the solution to set, I believe. Here you are, as promised. Drink it down quickly, before it loses strength.

Kelakhan tells you, After a time you will learn to have mastered this new form of breath weapon, the Breath of Ice. Return to me after you have done so and we will talk about how you can improve the effectiveness of your original breath weapon, the breath of fire. You must have earned a rank of at least 60, however, before I can begin such training.

You take the flask from Kelakhan and drink it down. Immediately you can feel the cold coursing through your body, changing your breath weapon to one of deadly ice..

You have received 1 Breath of Ice.

Steps[edit]

  • Seek out Kelakhan in the Spiritous Swamp if you wish to learn how to change your breath weapon to a Breath of Ice.
    • He's not really in the swamp. Port to Lerena, fly to the north east and cross the islands until you encounter a high mountain. His lair is right ontop.
  • Listen to Kelakhan
  • Acquire a Splinter of Ice Bone from the greater skeletons in the Northern Deadlands . Northern Deadlands are found on the frozen island of Trandalar.
  • The other item that is needed for making the potion is the Essence of Ice. Though not every blighted creature formed from ice maintains enough of it's essence to be what you need, Kelakhan said that if you kill enough Ice Blights in the Northern Deadlands, you should be able to obtain the essence needed.
  • Return to Kelakhan with the Splinter of Ice Bone and the Essence of Ice that are needed for making the potion.
  • Speak with Bacharath at the Satyr Refugee Camp in Feladan
  • Create ten (10) Corvian Silver Bars. You may need to purchase the Corvian Ore from Bacharath at the Satyr Refugee Camp in Feladan if you do not have a ready supply.
  • Return to Kelakhan with the Corvian Silver Bars.
  • Convey Kelakhan's message to Khalentaris the Breath of Fire, outside the Tower of Summoning.
  • Return to Kelakhan in the Spiritous Swamp.
    • Yeah..No.. see above comment.
