Quest text[edit]

Thurid tells you, Good to see you... err... <player>! That's right, <player>. I almost forgot again. I'm glad you're here. I've got some more news for you regarding my research. There is some good news, and some bad news. The good news is, I've managed to learn quite a bit more about channeling the element of fire. The bad news is, that my reagents were again destroyed in the process. They just don't seem powerful enough. However, I know what needs to be done next in order to make this work.

Thurid tells you, I've become convinced that the only way to succeed with this, is to go straight for the strongest and most potent reagents known in Istaria right now. First, I'll need a Flawless Fire Opal Gemstone. For this you will need to find the most powerful Fire Opal Golem on the Volcanic Island of Fire, and convince him to give it to you. Most likely he won't be willing, so get it from him however you can. Second, I'll need a sample of Living Flame. In order to get this, you will need to face what will likely be your most difficult challenge yet.

Thurid tells you, You will need to brave the Fire Golem Surtheim. He is the essence of the Volcanic Fire Island, borne from the forces that shaped the island itself. He will not be an easy foe, but there is no other choice if we are to proceed. We have literally exhausted all other measures. As dangerous as he is, I believe I may have a way to assist you in this challenge.

Thurid tells you, I've received word from Tomas about the locket that you have discovered. Something about an inscription on it? I think the locket may be an indispensable tool against Surtheim. Before I can be certain of it though, I will need you to obtain that Flawless Gemstone from Granduus, the Fire Opal Golem first. I must prepare the gemstone to be able to contain the Living Fire. Once it is prepared, it should be able to repel, if not absorb Surtheim's power. You must hurry <player>. We are very close to being able to replicate the Burning Archer's power! We must finish what we have begun!

Now that you have the Gemstone from Granduus, return to the Archwizard so he can examine it..

You have received 1 Flawless Uncut Fire Opal Golem Gemstone.

Thurid tells you, My word! Excellent work <player>! Let me take a look at this for a moment. It looks like a superb stone. It should be ideal for what I have planned.

Thurid tells you, With this gemstone in it's raw form, I can enchant this so that it is capable of containing the Living Fire we need from Surtheim. Here, take this pouch of powder and sprinkle some onto the gemstone while I begin the enchantment.

You have received 1 Flawless Uncut Fire Opal Golem Gemstone.

You have received 1 Thurid's Powder Pouch.

Thurid tells you, Good, good. Now, the next step is to get this gemstone shaped properly so it can be set into the locket you have. This is a very, very important task, not without some danger involved. The gemstone must remain pristine and flawless. If any flaws or cracks are introduced, then it will shatter when we try to channel the Living Fire into it. The process of shaping it is not without it's own degree of danger however. Right now, the gemstone is not stable, so you may have to use some encouragement to find someone willing to do it. Good luck, and come back to me after the stone is shaped.
