Quest text[edit]

Ellynor tells you, Well hello there <player>. What can I do for you?

Ellynor tells you, The gemstone is unstable? And Bastea already turned it down, so you need me to shape it for you? My goodness. She is quite skilled, so this must be a rather risky job. Hmm. I... suppose... I could do it for you. I may have a few special tools that could aid in the doing this. Before I do it though, I'll need two things from you first.

Ellynor tells you, First, I'll need a Mithril Gemcutter. Only mithril will be hard enough, and hold the edge necessary to ensure the gem remains flawless. Secondly, I'll need a more personal favor. Due to the danger involved, I want to be prepared in case something goes wrong. I.... I need you to recover a picture for me. A picture of my family. I dropped it while fleeing the destruction of Rachival. I haven't spoken about this before to anyone, but I feel I need to tell you about it before I attempt this task.

Ellynor tells you, My.... My parents and my older sister all ... They.... They perished the same night I lost the picture. The Withered Aegis forces had broken through into the city, and they were slaughtering everyone. Many of us ran to the top of the mountain, and huddled near the eastern wall of the city. Our only chance was to try and climb down the mountain from the outside. I was scared and crying, holding on to my parents. A lot of other folks were crying too. It was terrible.

Ellynor tells you, The screams of the dying mixed with the battle cries of the Aegis. Shouts from what remained of the city guards were nearly drowned out by the wails and growls of the horrors that fell upon us all. It.... It was.... .... ..... I'm sorry <player>, I don't mean to get all... Just please.... Give me a moment... I... I'll be fine in a moment....

Ellynor tells you, My apologies <player>. I didn't mean for that to happen. As I was saying, my parents helped me over the wall first. Or they tried to anyway. I was stubborn and upset, and I didn't want to leave them behind, so I struggled some. Finally, they convinced me to go over the wall. Before they helped me over though, my mother gave me a picture of all of us together, smiling. She told me that we would all be able to do that again soon, but for right now, we needed to leave. Finally, I went over the wall. I got down on the other side, and I waited for my parents and sister to come too. But something happened.

Ellynor tells you, The screams got louder and louder, and my parents never came over the wall. I started to panic and started crying again. I called out to them, then screamed out their names, but they never answered. Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, my father's face appeared at the top of the wall. He called my name, and told me to run. To run as far and as fast as I could, and not to look back. I told him no, that I wasn't going anywhere without them. Then I saw it..

Ellynor tells you, It wasn't until then that I had noticed my father was bleeding badly from a wound on his head. The next few moments seemed to drag on forever. Behind my father, I saw an Abomination for the first time. I saw it's arms holding on to gruesome weapons. Blood and meat were still dripping and clinging to the blades. It raised up one of it's arms, preparing to cut my father in two. He turned over his shoulder to look at it for a moment, then turned back to me and again told me to run. He screamed it at me, but before he could even finish saying it, the Abomination struck.

Ellynor tells you, It brought it's cleaver down right through my father's skull, <player>. His scream caught in his throat and turned into a gurgling noise. Then, the Abomination flung my father's body aside like it was nothing. Like it didn't even matter. I was in shock. I tried to scream, but my voice had left me. I tried to move, but my legs wouldn't respond. My eyes couldn't leave the spot where my father was just a moment before. I wanted to do a million things, but couldn't do any of them. All I could do was stand there, frozen. I'm not sure how long I stood there, but it must have been long enough to get the attention of the Abomination.

Ellynor tells you, It raised all of it's arms and shook it's weapons in the air. Then, with it's dead, milky eyes, it looked right at me and roared. Not a roar like an animal would make. This was something entirely different. The sound seemed to rise up from everywhere around me all at once. A shrill torturous wail at first, but then another, much deeper, much more horrifying sound seemed to overlap the shrill one. I heard them both at the same time, and it snapped me out of my trance. I panicked and just turned around to run. My foot hit the loose rocks on the side of the mountain, and I started tumbling down the side of it.

Ellynor tells you, When I woke up, I was near the bottom of the mountain, on a small shelf. It looked like it should have been morning, but the sky was a haunting greenish black. I saw that there were other people down at the bottom of the hill, but none of them were moving. I saw a patrol of Withered Aegis moving past below me. An Abomination seemed to be leading a group of skeletons and zombies, who were stabbing their spears and swords through the bodies on the ground, making sure they were dead. I crept back against the mountainside and waited a long time for them to pass. When they seemed to be far enough away, started to climb the rest of the way down from the shelf.

Ellynor tells you, I was hurting all over, and when I tried to use my right leg, it buckled under me, and I toppled over. I fell down the rest of the way, and let out a yell by accident. The Aegis patrol must have heard me, because they turned around and looked in my direction, but I just laid still, pretending I was dead. They eventually lost interest, and kept going on their patrol. When they were out of sight, I stood up, and stumbled as quickly as I could across the road to a small grove of trees and hid there for awhile. I rested as long as I dared, until I heard another patrol approaching.

Ellynor tells you, I got up and tried to run as fast as I could in the direction I thought Tazoon might be. I was in such pain, but I knew if I didn't get away then, I would be killed, and my family would have died in vain. After a short while, the pain was too great, and I think I went unconscious. But my body must have known it needed to keep going, because eventually, I got close enough to Tazoon to be picked up by a patrol near the city. I don't remember much about that, but they got me to safety. I guess I slept for several days, and was nursed back to health by the Healers in the city. But when I finally came to, the picture I had of my family was gone.

Ellynor tells you, Oh <player>, what I'd give to have that picture back. My heart breaks every day when I wake up and realize that everything that's happened isn't a nightmare. I keep hoping I'll wake up and I'll find out that none of this really happened. That my family is still alive and safe in Rachival, and the Withered Aegis never came into being. But I know that isn't going to happen. I'll never get my family back <player>, but please, please, if there's anyway you could possibly look for that picture..... I... I'd be so very grateful. It would help make the pain a little easier to bear. I know it's probably long gone, and impossible to find after all these years, but could you please give it a try? Please look for the picture of my family!

Ellynor tells you, Oh, you will? Really? You mean it? Oh <player> thank you ever so much! You don't know how much that means to me, just saying that you'd be willing to look for it. You truly are a hero <player>! I don't know where I dropped it exactly but, if it was likely to be anywhere, it would probably be near the base of the mountain outside Rachival's northeastern wall. That was where I fell. Oh, <player>, I do so hope you find it. If you do, you can be positive that I'll shape this gemstone of yours immediately and completely flawlessly. You can count on that for sure! Thank you <player>, and I wish you all the luck in the world to find that picture!

A slight mound in the dirt catches your eye and strikes you as odd since it is in an otherwise flat area. Upon examining the bulge of dirt, you notice that something is buried here. You brush away the dirt and find that a corner of a small picture emerges. This could be Ellynor's family picture! Hurry back and give it to her. She will be delighted that you found it!.

You have received 1 Ellynor's Family Picture.

Ellynor tells you, <player>! You... You found it! You actually found it! Oh <player>, you're my hero! I can't believe it's still in one piece! And with all that area to cover! How did you... Where was.... Oh <player>! Thank you so very much! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I don't know how I can repay you for this, but I'll do whatever I can. Let me see the gemstone you need to have shaped.

Ellynor tells you, Yes. I can do this. I know I can. I'll do it for my family. I'll do it so you can capture this power and use it against the Withered Aegis. Use it and avenge my family <player>. There is only one more thing I need before I can get started though. I'll need that Mithril Gemcutter I mentioned. If you can get one to me, I'll get started as soon as I can.

Ellynor tells you, Oh, you found one <player>? Excellent! I'll get to work immediately. This will require all my concentration and a fair amount of time. It may be best for you to come back and see me in a little while. I'll be sure to have this done for you when you return.
