Quest text[edit]

Miry tells you, You may have noticed already that we, as clerics, are not the strongest nor the most brawny. The large swords and axes and marvelous bows are simply not our forte. So, we rely on other ways to survive.

  • Like healing?

Miry tells you, Yes, very true. We can also wield shields, as you do, that can block incoming attacks. Us clerics also have learned the ability Istara's Shield. This is a very useful ability called a damage shield. It shields you from taking a portion of damage for a time, which can be a life-saver if used in the thick of battle!

  • Is there any downside to using it?

Miry tells you, For many abilities there are not, but for damage shields, like Istara's Shield, there is. The shield will protect you from a portion of damage your enemies inflict, but only for a time. After a while it will fade, so be sure you're cognizant of this. You don't want to be caught unaware and unprepared for your damage shield to vanish!

  • -- Continue ---

Miry tells you, I want you to go out and battle some spiders. While you're there, practice using Istara's Shield to reduce the damage you take from them. The Brown Spiders inhabit an area to the west of Pratt's Pond, along the road to the windmill and by their nest. Pratt's Pond can be found by following the road southeast out of the square. Check your map to not get lost!

Reducing the damage you take can improve your survivability. Return to Acolyte Miry once you've killed enough spiders.

That's enough spiders. Be sure to use Istara's Shield at least once before you return to Acolyte Miry.

Miry tells you, Done? Wonderful. I hope the shield serviced you well! There are other ways to increase your survival, as well - using stuns, mesmerizes, and roots. Unfortunately, us clerics do not learn any of these - not without the help of other classes.

  • What do they do?

Miry tells you, Stuns prevent a creature from acting or moving. Mesmerizes do the same, but may break after a few hits or a certain amount of damage. Roots do not prevent actions, but prevent movement, and can also break. All three give a small period of immunity after use. You may see creatures, especially Aegis, using these against you. Be wary!
