Emerald of Dahm'a'mun, Gulnor's Letter

Ahassunu has been curious about the Emerald since you came to her for the polished azulyte prisms. With her help, you managed to trade the Dwarves for temporary use of the emerald so that she can study it. Now, you must return it in order to avoid a major diplomatic incident.

Quest text[edit]

I require your assistance one last time, <player>. We need to return the Emerald to the Dwarves in order to avoid a major incident.

  • What sort of incident?

The kind that might split the Empire and cause a major rift between the races.

  • They would go to war with all of Dragonkind?

Given what we had to do in order to secure its temporary use, I suspect they might if they believed we intended to keep the emerald.

  • I suppose I can see how that might upset them.

Speak with Ahassunu

Exactly. Here it is, fly quickly and avoid any detours.

Deliver the Emerald to Thazor Goldeneye, the Royal Treasurer in Aughundell

<player>, one moment, please!

Please wait, I have something for you.

  • I'm sorry, but I am in a hurry.

I have a message for you from Gulnor the Elder.

  • Thank you. I am in a hurry and will read it later.

What? Wait! Look at the seal!

  • I don't have time for this kind of detail.

But... but... <player>, it's Lord Dralnok's seal. The Royal Seal! It's only used for the most urgent matters!

  • Is that so?

Speak with the Iron Guard

When a member of the Iron Guard receives a letter with that seal, we are required to stop whatever we are doing and immediately follow the new orders. You are one of the Gifted and so you cannot be ordered around, but if Gulnor sent this then it's not to invite you to share an ale at the tavern.

Read Gulnor's Letter

Game Feedback: <player>,

I have made a very important discovery! It involves the Withered Aegis and a plot to invade Aughundell. The details of this plan lead me to believe that we have traitors amongst the Iron Guard. Worse, I fear that the walls have ears and therefore it isn't safe to discuss this in the city. Please meet me near the large house near the road in Defender's Gate as soon as possible.

I trust your discretion in this matter.

Gulnor the Elder.

Game Feedback: The emerald is important, but it is only a treasure. An invasion of Aughundell is of critical importance to the war effort and the people of the city. You should meet Gulnor first.

Meet Gulnor the Elder near the large house on the road in front of Defender's Gate

Game Feedback: You look around, but you don't see Gulnor. Would he be late?

Game Feedback: You feel as if you are being watched...

Wait for Gulnor the Elder to arrive for your important meeting

Game Feedback: Assassin tells you, The emerald belongs to us!

Defend yourself and the emerald!

Game Feedback: It was a trap! Return immediately to the treasury with the emerald, and don't let anyone stop you this time!

Game Feedback: Thazor tells you, By Brobbet's Gavel, it is good to see you back. You bring the Emerald of Dahm'a'mun, I trust?

  • Yes, please take it and put it away for safe-keeping.

Game Feedback: Thazor tells you, Of course, I will. Why are you so insistent? You have it, what more is there?

  • I was led into a trap by assassins who attempted to steal it.

Game Feedback: You give Thazor the precious emerald.

Game Feedback: Thazor tells you, Assassins within Aughundell itself? Outrageous! I have never heard of such a thing. Are you sure they were assassins and that they were after the Emerald?

  • It was the Penumbral Edge and their motives were very clear.

Game Feedback: Thazor tells you, The Penumbral Edge?

  • A hidden society of assassins whom I have dealt with in the past. I was sent a letter which led me into their trap. Can you tell me if the seal is authentic?

Deliver the Emerald to Thazor Goldeneye, the Royal Treasurer in Aughundell

Game Feedback: Thazor tells you, The seal of Dralnok? Let me see... yes, yes... it is authentic, there is no doubt here. But only m'lord has access to it in his office!

  • Precisely. It was sent by Gulnor... what do you have to say, Gulnor?

Game Feedback: You give Thazor the letter.

Game Feedback: Gulnor tells you, I assure you that I did not write this letter, <player>.

  • The guard told me he got it from you and that seal... only you have access to it! Do you want to keep the emerald for yourself?

Game Feedback: Thazor tells you, Preposterous! This is a serious charge, <player>. Gulnor is our leader: if he wants the emerald, he just needs to ask me to open the door of the treasury and I won't have to ask the reason!

  • This letter is no fantasy.

Game Feedback: Gulnor tells you, What is written in it is: Iron Guard members who would betray their people for the Withered Aegis? No offense, <player>, but I haven't read anything that stupid for a long time! I know each member of the Iron Guard and each has fought with Lord Dralnok. They have protected the city and suffered centuries of siege. They have seen their brethren dying at our walls. Changing sides? Impossible! Please, describe to me the guard who gave you this letter.

  • <You describe the guard.>

Game Feedback: Gulnor tells you, I don't know him. He's not one of the Iron Guard.

  • Who is he, then? He was already gone when I returned to the Treasury after the ambush.

Game Feedback: Gulnor tells you, A member of the Penumbral Edge, I presume? The seal is the most worrisome part of this. Either they managed to get access to mine or they were able to create a very good copy that is good enough to fool almost anyone. In both cases, we need to carry out an investigation as soon as possible.

  • That is a legitimate concern.

Ask Gulnor the Elder about the letter

Game Feedback: Gulnor tells you, For the moment, I would just like to thank you for protecting and bringing back our treasure. Please take this, you have earned it. This stone was found centuries ago and has lain in the treasury since, gathering dust. It resonates with magical energy, but none that Dwarven smiths or mages ever recognized. Perhaps you can make use of it?
