Borlak's Head

Scale-Guard Kerrak wants you to do something to make a statement to Lady Kendra. He's sending you into the Sslanis Jungle to attack Lieutenant Borlak and his followers.

Quest text[edit]

<player> should speak again with Scale-Guard Kerrak for that one's next assignment.

Speak with Scale-Guard Kerrak

As always, <player> comes to Kerrak at a fine time. Lady Kendra continues to question the readiness of the militia to defend Sslanis. Kerrak is really very tired of Kendra's attitude and wishes to make a statement which will resolve the issue once and for all.

To the north of this city, on the hills beyond the jungle you'll find a ruined storage outpost. It is so haunted that the Saris refuse to go there, in fact. Saris say the place is too cramped to place their archers, but Kerrak knows the truth.

If needed, take friends. Scour the hills north of the jungle along the road and kill at least five of the skeletons. One which calls itself Lieutenant Borlak walks again and serves the undead legion. This one betrayed the Saris many years ago, and now taunts them with its presence. Find and destroy Borlak, but keep that one's head. Take the head to the Parsinia garrison as a gift for Kendra. Do this, and Kerrak will be grateful.

Wait. On second thought, no. Not the Parsinia garrison. Take it to Kion and present it to Kendra directly! Do this, and Kerrak will be very, very grateful.

Kill Lieutenant Borlak and take his head to Lady Kendra in Kion. This undead roams northwest of the jungle on a hill overhanging the road to Parsinia.

Game Feedback: Borlak falls, and you quickly take his head.

Kill the Risen Marauders who defend Borlak.

Game Feedback: You have defeated Borlak's Guard.

Take the head of Borlak to Lady Kendra in Kion.

Welcome to Kion, good <race>. I presume Kerrak has sent you to me?

The head of Borlak? Well, this is a bit of a surprise. I was not expecting Kerrak to reach this point for some time yet.

But where are my manners? Please, honored <player>, rest and be welcome in my home. I have sweet mint tea, or wine if that is preferable. Be at peace, and I will make many things clear.

Since ancient times, the Sslik have been led by those they deemed best suited to the task. This system kept the ineffectual and the power-mad alike from becoming leaders. In a tribe such a system is ideal. However, the Sslik are no longer living in tribes. The Sslik are members of the Empire now. You live in a city. It is time for the Sslik to have a leader.

The Sslik dedication to consensus decision making is so ingrained that it took me forever to find one who was enough of a rebel to move beyond tradition, but who was motivated by love of others and concern for the future of the Sslik race. I learned how to make Kerrak angry, and then began a campaign of gentle irritation. Finally Kerrak began to snap back. I escalated, and Kerrak reacted perfectly. Kerrak built a militia and in so doing became a leader. The Sslik will need to see that Kerrak has what it takes to lead, and I think they will in time. Now, Kerrak has stood up to me, and it is my turn to back down.

Listen to Lady Kendra

Please tell Kerrak I was stunned and amazed that the Sslanis militia could do this, and that my advisors had to speak with me privately before I could give you my response. Tell him I looked like I was chewing lemons while you presented your report. And please, tell him nothing else. I think Kerrak will be the leader the Sslik need, <player>. I ask you to remain silent, and keep this secret tightly in your heart. Now, you had best return to Sslanis, and tell Kerrak that Kendra of the Saris has been humbled.

Game Feedback: Return to Sslanis and tell Kerrak this task is done.

Kerrak would have loved to see the expression on Kendra's face when the head was presented! Yes, it was childish, inappropriate, and thoroughly unbecoming - this one will be snickering about it for days! <player> has been a great help in getting the militia going, and is deserving of recognition.

Return to Sslanis and tell Scale-Guard Kerrak this task is done.

<player>, take this badge and let it proclaim to the world that <player> has served and defended Sslanis with honor. Accept also this token of Kerrak's deep and abiding gratitude. <player> has made the Sslanis militia possible, and Kerrak will never forget that. May the fortunes of war be favorable, always!
