Quest text[edit]

<player> should visit Nassath the Blacksmith about a possible courier job.

Speak with Nassath the Blacksmith

A courier, yes, great need Nassath has. Feeble, weak, unsuitable this bronze is. Strong and flexible means a blade that durable is, but fierce tempering is required if wicked edge the blade shall hold. Jeysta Maaltas of Mahagra has agreed these bronzes to examine. Please, to Kion go and with the wisdom of Jahaim swiftly return!

Take Nassath's ingots to Jahaim the Weaponsmith in Kion.

Nassath sent you, eh? Well, let me see what we have here. Hmmpf. Nassath must be really agitated. I can barely read this note. Ugh. Something, something, muffin frosting, wumpus shoving leopard? I'm sorry, this is going to take a few minutes. Nassath's spelling, handwriting, and grammar all just fall apart when he gets upset. Oh, you noticed? At least you were able to figure out the intent. Nassath told me once that his clan was from the swamp region south of Harro, and that they speak a different dialect from most other Sslik. Hm? Yes, I know Sslik aren't 'he' or 'she', but this is the way I talk and 'he' is a lot more polite than 'it'. Aha! Looks like Nassath is trying to do a Cobretti temper. It makes a damn fine blade if done right, but it's never going to work like this. Let me make a few notes here and you can take all this back to Nassath.

Flame essence contains a compound called phlogiston, which can be distilled into this really hot, sticky slime that soaks up and retains heat, but breaks down in the presence of water. The face of the blade has to be totally dry when the phlogiston is applied or the stuff rots. When you quench the blade the edges cool fast and harden enough to hold a good edge. The phlogiston absorbs heat from the forge and then pumps it into the core of the blade. The core cools slowly, which makes the blade springy and durable.

Here you are. Please take these notes back to Nassath. Sslanis is in a very humid tropical jungle. The moisture in the air is enough to ruin phlogiston in minutes even if you keep every speck of condensation off the blade. There's an Imperial ore station east of Nuthala. It's out of the wind at the end of a box canyon surrounded by rock. He can try the process there. He also needs to pack ice around the quench tank or the phlogiston will reheat the blade and ruin it. That's what happened to these ingots.

Speak with Jahaim

You didn't fall asleep during my little lecture, which was very polite of you. Now, hurry back to Sslanis before Nassath starts sending out search parties to look for you.

Game Feedback: Return the annotated log book to Nassath.

Yes! Anxious for the return of <player> Nassath has been! Many, many thanks for this service! Now, what advice from... Ahem. Please, forgive this one for being unclear. This one was very anxious and excited, and spoke poorly. Learning this temper process has been vexing. Aha! Yes, the errors are clear now. Nassath will begin again. <player> has been most helpful and Nassath's hopes <player> will accept this token of gratitude.
