With the knowledge of socketing fresh in your mind, Kerian the Wise is sending you out to craft scales techniqued with statistics and skills.

Quest text[edit]

Listen to Kerian the Wise.

Now, let's get you introduced to skill and attribute techniques. You see, scales all give attributes or defense. Strength scales make you stronger and help your claw swipes cut more cleanly. Power helps your spells do more lasting damage on impact. The defensive ones - armor and health - are more self-explanatory, but all of these things have one thing in common: they cannot be techniqued with the power they already hold.

  • -- Continue --

You see, little one, every scale gives a boon to one of your attributes. Techniques can only exist where a boon already does not - there is only so much power that can be bound to a singular scale! So you cannot technique a strength scale with strength or a power scale with power, but you can technique a strength scale with power and a power scale with strength. I hope that makes sense to you.

  • I think so.

Likewise, a scale can only hold so many techniques. In the beginner tiers of sandstone, slate, bronze, and iron, a scale can only hold one. As the materials grow stronger, so does their magical affinity, and thus their ability to hold more and more techniques. The strongest of materials we can craft and technique - the fifth tier of marble and mithril - can hold three strong techniques! That is far off, however, and you are only focusing on the first tier.

  • -- Continue --

Now, I want you to try this knowledge out in practice. Techniques require you to use something more than a resource pulled from the ground - they require pieces of living beings to donate their magic. For weaker techniques, only one piece of one creature is used. In this case, that is a carapace of a Loricatus Beetle. In the future, you'll need to hunt more pieces of more creatures per technique, but for now, focus on this simple one.

  • -- Continue --

I want you to craft me two Bronze Dexterity Chest Scales, techniqued with Dragon Breath. I will give you the resources for the technique, the technique itself, and the formula, but as the Copper and Tin is right up the hill, I request that you gather your own metal. If you lose the Loricatus Beetle Carapaces I am giving you, you will have to redo this task or seek out the real thing and gather them yourself, so please do not lose them!

Craft two (2) Bronze Dexterity Chest Scales techniqued with Adventure: Dragon Breath I.

Game Feedback: Well done! Return to Kerian the Wise to show off your new scales!

Return to Kerian the Wise with the techniqued Bronze Dexterity Chest Scales.

Let me examine these scales. Hmm... rough around the edges, still. You need to polish down the edges more so the scales don't grind into your own! It looks good overall, though. I could make an assistant of you yet. I will take one, but you may keep the other. Maybe wearing it will help you learn how to refine them better in the future.
