BattleMaster Avariatus believes it's time to learn about stances.

Quest text[edit]

Speak with BattleMaster Avariatus.

We have something of importance to discuss, <player>! So listen up, and listen closely. When in combat there are several ways you can approach the enemy, especially with the use of stances, which by now I'm sure you've noticed that you have access to quite a few of them. Stances are fighting styles, they enhance certain aspects of combat and can vastly improve your performance on the battlefield. For instance, being Alerted makes you attack faster, while Primalist increases the potency of your spells.

  • Which should I use?

That is your choice, <player>. Whatever you feel most comfortable with, and whichever is appropriate for the challenge you face. However, sometimes stances can also improve certain abilities. If you use Claw Strike while in the Conqueror's stance it will do significantly more damage, and that's what I'd like you to practice with.

  • -- Continue --

Use your Offensive Stance and then go hunt down the Wriggling Masses nearby the Lookout Camp. Ugly creatures, it'd be hard to miss them. Kill a few dozen of them while using Claw Strike and then return to me.

  • A few dozen...!?

... Oh, that's right. That may be a bit too many of them for a new recruit. Very well, five should be enough. Now get going already!

Use Combat Stance: Conqueror.

Game Feedback: You have used Conqueror Stance! Now use Claw Strike and go kill those Maggots.

Kill five (5) Small Wriggling Masses nearby the Lookout Camp.

Game Feedback: That's enough maggots. It's going to take hours to make your scales shine again... Be sure to use Claw Strike enough times before returning.

Use Claw Strike two (2) times.

Game Feedback: That should be enough uses of Claw Strike for BattleMaster Avariatus. Make sure you finish killing the Wriggling Masses he required before returning.

Return to BattleMaster Avariatus.

There you are, hatchling! I was nearly wondering if you gave up, but you returned, and I'm guessing that means you handled those wriggling masses gloriously with your enhanced claw strike. Nicely done, <player>.
