Seek out a master of crystalshaping and obtain a memory crystal for Allathos

Spirit tells you, What, who are you? <player>? Yes, there was a thing I needed you to do for me. Ah, I remember now. Seek a skilled crystalshaper, <player>, and ask them to craft a memory stone for me. Return with it, and I will be able to remember the secret of Drulkar's Wrath to you. Now, forgive me, but I must rest again...

Balennos tells you, A memory crystal? Well, I must say, that's a rather unusual request. I don't recall having been asked to make one since we returned from our travels. Not surprising, I suppose, considering how much other knowledge was lost while we were gone. Well, no matter. Yes, I can make one for you. In fact, I'm probably the only dragon around with the skill and knowledge needed for such a delicate task. There are a few items I'll require for it, of course...

Balennos tells you, First, the question of payment. I will require 50 Radiant Orbs, over and above those needed for your crystal, for my time. The crystal itself will require 50 Focused Violet Azulyte, 25 Radiant Orbs, and 10 cut Diamonds. Any questions about what's needed?

Balennos tells you, Excellent! Then I will look forward to your return. If you will forgive my curiosity, though, I simply have to know how you learned about memory crystals in the first place and what you are expecting to do with yours once it's finished.

Balennos tells you, Allathos? The spirit who was Nelthorr's companion? Oh, my, that is something. I heard about her story - what a senseless waste. All that knowledge and history, lost. If there is something she wishes to teach you, I'll be glad to help you any way I can - which is why I have to tell you that I don't know if a spirit will be able to use a memory crystal at all.

Balennos tells you, I expect that you've never seen or used a memory crystal yourself. Books, scrolls, inscriptions on stone or metal, all of these record only descriptions of history. Memory crystals record history itself, through the eyes and earfins of those who were there. All you need to do is touch one and remember into it.

What I do not know is if a spirit can touch the crystal to activate it. I don't know if a spirit can remember the events of their life coherently or if the crystal will even accept and imprint those memories. I am, however, very interested in finding out the answer. I will consult my library for anything that might be of use while you gather the materials I require. When you return, I will tell you if I have learned anything.

Balennos tells you, Back already? I expected you to be chasing wisps for at least another day or so. No matter! Let me check all this over for a moment... Excellent, these materials will do nicely. Now, the critical portion of this process is to allow the crystal to cool slowly, so that the internal structure has time to form completely. It also keeps the matrix free of any inclusions, which are bad news of their own sort. Come back to me in ten minutes or so. Go have a nice soak in a lava pool or something.

The time Balennos asked for is up. Return to him for the memory crystal..

The crystal is much heavier than it looks, and surprisingly warm. Hopefully, this will be what Allathos needs..

Balennos tells you, Ah, there you are. First things first - here is your crystal. One of my finer pieces of work if I do say so myself. Good luck, both of you. When you're finished - especially if it works - you will come back and tell me all about it, won't you?

Allathos touches the crystal with one ghostly claw and begins to concentrate..

Spirit tells you, Who are you? <player>? Oh, yes, <player>. I have something to teach you, but I failed... Yes, I sent you for a memory crystal. Were you able to find one? Ah, well done. Here, place it on the ground, quickly. Now, give me a moment...

Allathos steps back, away from the crystal. Even as a spirit, she seems suddenly tired..

Taking up the crystal, you try to clear your thoughts as Allathos instructed....

Spirit tells you, Take it. Calm your thoughts and focus only on the crystal. Tell me what you see when you open your mind.

You have received 1 Charged Memory Crystal.

For a moment, you see a city of low huts and silk pavilions on a wide sandy beach. Countless brightly-colored banners are waving and snapping in the wind, and the streets are filled with dancing saris....

Spirit tells you, What is this? What manner of dream are you? You have the brightness of a strong spirit, and wear the mantle of an Ancient... Are you really one of Drulkar's Blessed? Am I awake at last?

A young elven woman kneels in a forest, gently burying a seed in the rich loam. She rests her fingers on the ground, and begins to sing. The slender shoot of a taniquel tree emerges from the ground, twisting and curling as it reaches for the sky....

Dralk. The great bowl of the city is filled with more dragons than you've ever seen in one place before, exchanging gifts under the gentle ashfall of winter....

Obviously, Allathos succeeded at impressing some of her memories into the crystal. Unfortunately, the images are disjointed, random moments strung together without purpose or meaning. This isn't going to work either..

Spirit tells you, I'm sorry that it didn't work as we had hoped, <player>. Still, it did record something, and that is at least a little progress. Please, take the crystal back to the one who made it and see if anything may be learned from it.

Fascinating... These are remarkable images, <player>, but I understand that they do not pertain to your goal. Give me a few minutes and I will see if I can find out anything more.

Steps

• Speak to a master of crystalshaping about making a memory crystal for Allathos
  • Balennos the Crystalshaper resides north of Dralk. He has an open ear for you.
• Acquire 50 Focused Violet Azulyte, 75 Radiant Essence Orbs and 10 Diamonds for Balennos.
  • You do not need to make them on your own.
• Wait at least ten minutes while Balennos creates the memory crystal.
  • Yep. 10. Minutes. Not hours. *raises gone fishin' sign*
• Return to Balennos for your memory crystal
• Take the memory crystal to Allathos
• Wait for Allathos to use the memory crystal
  • Takes another minute. You better don't yawn in that lava cave do ya!
• Speak to Allathos about the memory crystal
• Open your mind to the crystal
  • Another 2 minutes...
• Tell Allathos what you saw
• Take the Charged Memory Crystal back to Balennos
