Quest text[edit]

Step: Listen to Lantenal's ramblings.

Thank you for coming to me, friend. I've spent much time looking into the materia you left me with and mulling over the pieces I know. Do you remember how I mentioned that dragonkind was stuck in time, unable to grow? I knew the Peak was cursed with a similar affliction, but I never considered to what extent.

  • What do you mean?

When Elial was wiped out of existence in this plane, he was truly sent to the Rift. I was continually stuck believing that the universe is logical and would not lock a beast in with its prey, but the world does not think in such ways. It does not think at all! Sending Elial and the Sleeper away was all that mattered.

  • (Continue.)

After Elial struck the Sleeper's talon, the shockwave destroyed not only dragonkind's ability to grow, but the ability for the island to move past that exact moment in time. The Sleeper is too immense, too entrenched in her own magic to be replicated. Truly she may not even have a soul, being a statue of silver, though many would disagree. Some claim she was Drulkar's mate, in an eternal sleep, awaiting his return.

  • (Continue.)

So while the Sleeper did not remain on the Peak in any form, her greatest enemy did - Elial. As did all of those who were alive on the Peak on that day when it became the Peak of Storms and our world shattered before us. You see, <player>, the Peak is frozen in time. Echoes of the past live on, wandering its rocky cliffs for the hundreds of years it's been destroyed. The conscious spirits echo how time has barely passed for them.

  • (Continue.)

Not all remained conscious; some reverted to their primal state, driven by fear and madness, and know nothing but attack and defense. The beings on the peak are not risen by the Aegis or Elial - they are dragonkind's own, those that stayed on the Peak on that fateful day, and are immortalized with it until the end of days.

  • So you believe Elial is similarly afflicted?

Exactly! The world the Peak experiences is the day that it shattered, extended into a millenia. Impressions of the past still wander its soil, sinking foot and claw into the ground. Elial himself is nothing but a whisper of the man that stepped foot on that peak. He is but a memory. A memory I wish to harvest.

  • Harvest?

The ability to create a memory crystal is long lost to the endless flow of time, much to my disappointment. Ask any hatchling running their rites and you know I have a certain fascination with shards and crystals! However, a living memory is something we may be able to use to our advantage. We believe we know everything that happened on the Peak, but only through the eyes of the dragons who fled. What about Elial's eyes?

  • So you want me to collect... him?

Yes! In a way. I wish for you to collect pieces of him. When I worked with the essence you left me, I was plagued with nightmares of devastation. After, I spent many hours on the Peak, meditating on what I saw. The winds ripping through made me numb, down to my clawtips. I then realised - I believe I was living the memories of those who perished.

  • So we could potentially relive Elial's memories.

Step: Acquire ten (10) Magic Remnants of Elial.

Right. I want to collect the memories of Elial himself and present it to the Council. Even if we cannot view them directly now, perhaps if the lost art is rediscovered, these wisps of memory can be focused into a moving picture of the day we lost the Sleeper. For the sake of dragonkind, I ask you to gather more remnants of Elial, and meditate on them. Any memories he put in my mind were lost on me, but perhaps they may appear to you. Try to connect with them, then return to me, so I may preserve them for the future.

Game Feedback: You snatch some of Elial's ghostly vapor before it disperses.

Game Feedback: Looking at the swirling darkness, you wonder if the nightmares Lantenal experienced truly were of the last days of the dragons and not the world of madness Elial lived in.

Game Feedback: The place where dragons ascend - a crater, where the Sleeper once rested. You've found where you should meditate.

Game Feedback: The cold wind seems to whip clean through you, but the warmth of the caldera below keeps you from freezing.

Game Feedback: The cold is making you feel sleepy. You inhale deeply and refocus your mind, the dark essence threatening to leak from your grip.

Game Feedback: Flickers of light prick at the edge of your eyelids. You feel annoyed.

Game Feedback: Shapes start to form - dark silhouettes outlined against the slight red of your eyelids. Rage fills you. Are they taunting you? Taunting your inability to find the memories?

Game Feedback: You can feel your teeth grind as, in your mind, you are gripping a blade. Your human hand wraps around the cool hilt, which shudders with power and magic. Your leader let you free on this little silly regiment. Why not toy with them, send them to their gods crying in fear?

Game Feedback: You are moving. Your body is not your own. Some noises in the distance imply you are acting threatening. Your mind is nothing but rage, rage, rage... then silence. Quiet. A cool mist settles on your soul and you release the memories of Elial from your mind. A flash of silver, the glimmer of scale, and then you open your eyes. It is time to return to the Hermit.

Step: Return to Lantenal the Hermit.

You look troubled, <player>. Are you okay?

  • As well as I can be. Take the essence and lock it away, Lantenal - lock it away until it can be safely stored in a memory crystal or what-have-you.

Oh. <Lantenal looks at you, in thought.> I understand, <player>. Elial's madness and wrath is not to be underestimated, even in such a form. Thank you for your sacrifice. While you were away, I spoke to the Council of Elders about my plan. They were curious, I believe, which is good! But they wanted to thank you for all of your effort for dragonkind.

<He clears his throat.>

May you forever be known under the title of <player>, Sleeper's Talon.

Game Feedback: For uncovering the mysteries of the Memory of Elial, %sn% will now be forever known as the Sleeper's Talon!
