Efimia tells you, <player>! What a fine name to enter my home. You are one after my own heart! Another adventurer to the core. I doubt there's much to offer one of your stature, but may I help you in any way?

  • Weaknesses and Resistances

Efimia tells you, Most monsters have weaknesses and resistances. However, you cannot see them right away. You have to try different damage types against them to see what works best. Usually, they will follow logic. A bony skeleton or a shelled beetle are weak to crushing damage, as you cannot score or pierce them. Elemental beasts such as ice golems are weak to flame, and fire golems are weak to ice.

Gather information from your allies and note down what works best!

  • Stances

Efimia tells you, Stances are abilities that grant a passive bonus when used. There is no 'best stance' for any particular situation, but certain abilities might gain an additional effect under a certain stance. Watch what your enemy is doing, consider your school and fighting style, and choose what works best for you!

  • Crowd Control (Stuns, Roots, Mezzes)

Efimia tells you, There are three main categories of crowd control. Stuns are hits that prevent all actions and movement for a period of time. Mezmerizes, or mezzes, prevent actions and movements, but the spell can be broken if too much damage is dealt. Roots do not prevent actions and will break after a certain amount of damage, but prevent movement and generally are tougher to remove than mezmerizes. All crowd control effects give a short grace period of immunity before you or your enemy can be affected again. Use them wisely!

  • Boons and Banes

Efimia tells you, Augmentations come in two flavors - boons and banes. Boons are positive effects, generally granting increases to your skills or ability to deal damage. Boons can come from hundreds of sources, but are usually obtained through abilities, consumables, or spells. If you see a friendly powerful Gifted, ask them for a quick touch-up on your boons!

Banes, on the other hand, are delirious effects. These come from abilities and spells and can cause damage over time or other negative effects. To combat this, you can use dispelling abilities or spells.

Efimia tells you, Dispelling abilities and spells are able to remove delirious effects from yourself or positive effects from your enemy. Be aware that it also works in reverse, so enemies can remove your boons as well! Keep an eye out for any of these nasty attacks.

Certain boons or banes will be harder to remove than others and cannot be removed by dispels with a weaker dispelling strength. While you cannot see the dispel strength needed to remove augmentations, you can see the dispelling strength of your own dispels, so keep note of what works where!

  • Delay and Recycle

Efimia tells you, Delay refers to the time before a spell is cast or an ability or item is used. A shorter delay means a quicker action. Items that reduce delay are therefore very powerful! The faster you attack, the faster you can react and deal damage. At most, you can reduce your delay so much that you only have a one-second interval.

Recycle, similarly, is the amount of time it takes for an item, ability, or spell to be usable again. Recycle reduction is very rare and hard to find, but immensely powerful, as your abilities and spells are where most of your power comes from.

  • Consumables

Efimia tells you, Consumable items, usually shortened to consumables, are items that you can use to gain some form of benefit. In Istaria, there is a wide range of consumables. The majority of these are crafted by Gifted - potions are made by bipedal alchemists and crystals are made by dragon crystalshapers. Both can provide large benefits to an adventurer! Some very powerful bonuses can also be found in the form of purchaseable items called baubles, offered by Pawnbrokers for coin. Spend wisely!

  • Multischooling

Efimia tells you, Multischooling is one of the things we non-dragons are best at. You can learn every school available at your fingertips, like myself! The benefits to this include mastery of abilities. When you double the season you learned your ability at, you master that ability and can use it outside of the school you learned it from. This increases your power greatly over time. Additionally, your skills are determined by the school with the highest mastery of each one. You will not forget your mastery over weapon skills from Warrior if you decide to learn Mage!

Of course, such an increase of power comes with its drawbacks.

  • -- Continue --

Efimia tells you, The drawback, unfortunately, is that as you become more well-versed, you also gain less experience. Your rating - the culmination of all the seasons of your schools - determines how fast you can learn. This is not an issue early on, but later, you may run into issues. If push comes to shove, I hear there is a man in Dalimond who can erase memories of schools - but with erasure comes the loss of all benefits.

  • Base, Hybrid, and Prestige Schools

Efimia tells you, Schools are categorized into three types. Base schools are the four you are familiar with - Mage, Warrior, Cleric, and Scout. They have no requirements to join. Hybrid schools include Druid, Monk, and Spiritist and require at least ten seasons into a school to learn the requirements for joining. Hybrid schools start out at the first season. Prestige schools, of which there are too many to list, require a season twenty skill level and start at season twenty.

To see what a school requires to join, find and talk to a trainer. They will be glad to tell you!
