Quest text[edit]

Gossith believes the crater must be investigated and if the Withered Aegis are there, removed. This one also wonders if <player> knows the tale of Ezzar's Folly?

  • No, I don't know the story.

Once, long long ago, this area was a broad plateau covered with thick grass on which cattle and Arbotus grazed. It was long before the Withered Aegis came and blighted the region, of course.

  • <continue>

There was a man, Ezzar, who was a Priest of Nazderon, one of the High Magadi. Ezzar built a large house and farm on this very spot and, using many slaves, supplied food to the city of Mellohndar.

  • <continue>

What Nazderon did not know was that Ezzar had the talent for magic and, having watched the master for many years, learned some of the ways of the primal magics of Dragonkind.

  • <continue>

So, when the Dragons came to destroy Mellohndar, Ezzar watched from a great distance but that one knew that the farm would be next. Ezzar descended into the basement, a secret basement filled with many magical implements, and began to cast spells using the primal magics.

  • <continue>

Ezzar, however, was not as skilled as Nazderon, nor had Ezzar bothered to learn the theories behind the magics that would help control its wild tendencies. Power built until Ezzar could no longer control it and it burst free, igniting other implements in the basement including some Lesser Artifacts that had been acquired from the Dryad.

  • What happened next?

That, Gossith's friend, is what happened next. A great explosion rocked the plateau and destroyed the house, Ezzar, and many of the inhabitants. The dragons never came, or so the story goes, for their magic did their work for them. The area has been known as Ezzar's Folly for centuries and serves, perhaps, as a warning to leave that which is of the Dragons alone if you are not a Dragon.

  • Could there be remnants of the magic or even Artifacts still there?

Speak with Scout Gossith

Gossith hadn't considered that! What a good thing <player> came along... Please, <Adventurer School>, investigate the crater for Gossith.

Investigate Ezzar's Folly for Scout Gossith

Game Feedback: There appears to be a dig of some sort within the crater. Someone is trying to excavate something! You should stop them.

Stop the Withered Aegis from digging in the crater further

Game Feedback: You have defeated the archaeologists of the Withered Aegis. You don't know what they were looking for, but you should inform Scout Gossith about this event.

Return to Scout Gossith at the Lost Patrol Camp

<player> has returned safely. This is good news. What was found within the crater?

  • Agents of the Ebon Guard were digging in the crater, maybe trying to find some artifact fragments buried by the explosion.

Digging. Yes, that is likely what was happening. Gossith will inform the Sergeant and perhaps soldiers can be dispatched to guard Ezzar's Folly. Artifacts falling into the hands of the Ebon Guard would be a very bad thing. Wouldn't <player> agree?
