Kalas wants you to listen to a story--in particular, the story of how he got to where he is now. To gain a better understanding, he wants you to research him in the past.

Kalas tells you, So one of the gnomes wants me to leave my house? Alas, <player>. That is impossible. I am bound to this place until the stars go dark. The house is likely to vanish before I do, which is why I try to keep it in good repair. If you have time, <player>, would you hear my tale? Not so much for my sake, but for your own.
Kalas tells you, To gain a better understanding, I am sending you to the past. Not the literal past, mind you. That is impossible. I want you to see if you can find records of me in Kion's archives.
Kalas tells you, Well, I could tell you what you need to know, but that would eliminate a part of the lesson I am attempting to share with you, <player>. Off to Kion with you now. I suspect they still hold the records in the vault. The vaultkeeper should be able to retrieve them. Just ask to see if they can retrieve anything on "Kalas."
Sharista tells you, How may I assist you today, <player>? Records? What is it you seek to know about?
Sharista tells you, Anything about a saris named Kalas? Why do you want to know about that bitter old man? Give me some time to see if I can find if anything is left in the archive vault.

Sharista tells you, There were no records left, I am afraid. Many saris today are likely to not remember this individual--by choice even. But I personally do remember him since he was a frequent patron of the vault, so I will tell you what I know.
Sharista tells you, Kalas was once a very kindhearted man--devout to Merrasat and a pillar of the community. He loved and was loved deeply. He had a wife and a prominent place in society as a wealthy banker. Indeed, Kalas was truly blessed in life!
Sharista tells you, I am afraid many only truly knew him in his later years--when he was a bitter, foul shadow of a man. This is why there are no records on him; those he wronged burned and destroyed all traces of him to aid in forgetting what they had gone through. It isn't much to go on, <player>, but still better than a vial of ashes where there should have been papers.
Kalas tells you, So, you now know that, in the past, I was a man of the city of Kion. I am saddened to hear they destroyed all the records of me in anger. Nonetheless, you heard that I was rich, happy, and had a beautiful wife too. I did really love her with all my heart... It pains me that I do not even remember her name now.
Steps[edit]
- Listen to Kalas.
- Speak with Kion's vaultkeeper.
- Talk to Sharista.
- Wait while Sharista looks for information on Kalas.
- Return and speak to Sharista again to see if she found anything.
- Listen to Sharista.
- Listen to Sharista.
- Return to Kalas at the southwestern end of Gnomekindle Town on New Koraelia.
