Knut tells you, Welcome to Aughundell <player>, Please, relax and enjoy yourself.Come fall, you will have to try a pint or two of Hadan's Hammer. I've been brewing it specially for the Harvest Festival.

Knut tells you, Hadan's Hammer? It's a drink, friend. I was there the day King Hadan invented it, in fact. It was during the Frontier campaigns. We'd been fighting and marching for three days straight, with no sleep and nothing to eat but hardtack and gruok jerky. We hadn't seen our supply wagons for almost a week. Everyone was tired, hungry, and chilled to the bone. We couldn't even have unshielded fires because they'd give our position away. King Hadan saw that we were too tired and demoralized to complain and realized he'd have to do something to lift our spirits.

Knut tells you, There was a patch of pumpkins near the camp, but we had left them alone since we couldn't do anything with them with the fires shielded. King Hadan grabbed the biggest one he could find, cleaned it out, and set it down in the middle of camp. Then he unlaced his boot, pulled out a flask of whiskey, and poured every drop of it into the pumpkin. Well, his officers didn't have a choice then. They dug out their own flasks and poured them into the pumpkin as well. After that the rest of the troops added whatever they had hidden as well. Hadan kept adding hot rocks to the mix until it was warm, then he filled a mug and took a good swallow. "Whuff," he says, "this stuff hits you like a hammer." Then he started filling mugs and passing them out for us to share.

Knut tells you, It hit like a hammer, all right - right on top of your tongue! It tasted terrible, but nobody would admit it! Everyone was talking about how good it was and how much they liked it. Hadan just sat there grinning, because he knew that nobody would dare to say anything to him about it. Well, by the second round, the stuff had improved a lot. Hadan started telling terrible jokes, but at that point anything would have gotten us laughing. He pulled down the fire shields and started tossing wood on all the fires, yelling at us to drink up and get warm so we could sleep well that night.

Knut tells you, We slept until almost noon, then broke camp and went looking for our supply wagons. We found them by nightfall, and called on the cooks to whip up a batch of Hadan's Hammer for dinner. What they made actually tasted good, but none of us were inclined to object. We all thought that luck had been with us because the undead hadn't found us that night, but a few days later we captured a Withered Aegis courier and learned differently.

Knut tells you, According to the report he was carrying, a wraith lord's patrol found our camp that night and sent for reinforcements immediately. Then, the wraith lord just sat there and watched us, trying to figure out what we were doing. There we were, fires blazing, drunk as skunks, laughing and carrying on like we hadn't a care in the world. After a few minutes, the wraith lord gets up and orders a full retreat. He meets up with the reinforcements and orders them to fall back at once too. The other officers can't understand his actions and demand to know why he didn't order his troops to attack.

Knut tells you, "Hadan would never make such a foolish mistake," he responded. "He was blatantly advertising his location, his troops were boasting about how drunk they were getting, and half the guards were passed out at their posts! It was obviously a trap!" Well, when we heard that, we all looked at King Hadan to see what his reaction was.

Knut tells you, He didn't even look up from the map he was studying. "Why are you all surprised," he asked. "My plan functioned exactly as intended." And Brobbet strike me down if he didn't stick to that story for the rest of his life...

Ahh, I'm sorry. Here I am rambling along about ancient history instead of making sure you had enough to eat & drink. I'll be over here polishing mugs if you need anything. Axe high, youngster!
