Quest text[edit]

Revanus tells you, Varrantoth is also known as the Implacable, but you may or may not know him as the god of Strength and Endurance. Once, he was considered to be one of the strongest and most outspoken members of the Istarian Pantheon.

Revanus tells you, Varrantoth and Daggarth, god of Cruelty and Malice, were boon companions. Rarely seen apart, they hunted and drank and even fought by each other's side. Then, one day, as the two hunted they became separated in the forest.

Revanus tells you, This was not unusual for each would often locate and track their prey on their own before calling the other to share in the spoils. This day Varrantoth heard splashing from ahead and, thinking it was Daggarth, ran to catch him unawares.

Revanus tells you, Peering through the bushes he spied a beautiful woman bathing in the waters of a cool mountain pond. Her hair was golden and shimmered and her smile as she enjoyed the pleasure of the bath was like sunrise over a snow-capped mountain.

Revanus tells you, From that moment onwards, Varrantoth was enamored of Alyssa, goddess of the Wood and of Nature, and could think of little else. Later that evening as he and Daggarth sat beside the fire, enjoying the spoils of the hunt, Varrantoth spoke of nothing else but the beauty in the waters.

Revanus tells you, Daggarth grew impatient with his friend, for he had no interest in women, and decided to play a cruel trick on the love-struck god. Over the next week as they traveled widely through the mountains hunting, he actively encouraged Varrantoth further, inflaming his passions, and pushing him to seek out Alyssa and take her for his own.

Revanus tells you, After days of this Varrantoth was convinced that Alyssa would return his feelings and returned to the Pantheon to seek the hand of Alyssa in marriage. Standing before the gods, Varrantoth professed his love of Alyssa and his desire to be wed.

Revanus tells you, Alyssa blushed and thanked the god of Strength for his interest, but she was already to be wed to Galderos, god of War. Varrantoth nodded, accepting this, and began to turn to leave when his companion, Daggarth, spoke up.

Revanus tells you, "Why should Galderos be the one to win this prize? Has he proved his worth with honor? Step forward, god of Weaklings, or you shall be named The Cowardly."

Revanus tells you, All present gasped at Daggarth's insults, including Varrantoth, but Galderos laughed. "I accept your challenge, Daggarth. We shall face each other in combat and prove the most worthy."

Revanus tells you, "You mistake me", Daggarth replied, "I was not speaking for myself but for Varrantoth, my companion. He will fight you for the right to wed the beautiful Alyssa."

Revanus tells you, Varrantoth did not want to fight Galderos, for the god stood in golden raiment, holding a large spear, but one glance at Alyssa, her golden hair cascading over her shoulders and gleaming in the sunlight, changed his mind.

Revanus tells you, "I accept the challenge. Let us fight, Galderos."

Revanus tells you, The two gods squared off in the Arena and fought for long hours till each was exhausted. Varrantoth was exhausted and preparing to accept defeat when Daggarth leapt into the ring, intending to surprise Galderos and bring him low. "Die now, fool!" the god of Malice shouted as he brought his heavy axe down towards the head of the weary god.

Revanus tells you, Galderos, however, summoned his strength and stepped aside, avoiding the blow, and landing one of his own on Daggarth. He then turned and, taking advantage of Varrantoth's confusion at the turn of events, wounded the god of Strength with a blade to the abdomen.

Revanus tells you, Gravely wounded the two gods fled the arena and the Pantheon for the safety of the forests. Galderos gave chase, but could not catch nor outrun the two hunters in the maze of trees and wind-swept rocks of the mountains.

Revanus tells you, After two days he gave up and returned to the Pantheon where he and Alyssa were wed. Istara, hearing what had happened, exiled both Varrantoth and Daggarth from the Pantheon to the wilds of Aradoth where they have remained ever since.
