Ulaven the Mage has much to tell you about the Withered Aegis and, in particular, a faction found on New Trismus called The Invae.

Quest text[edit]

Hail, <player>. What do you know of the Withered Aegis? Not much, I imagine, am I right?

  • I would like to know more.

I am glad to hear that. Knowledge is power, as they say. The more you learn, the more powerful you can become. They also say you should know your enemy. The better you know them, the easier they become to predict and defeat.

  • Good advice!

I thought so too. Now, the Withered Aegis is a cabal of beings intent on the subjugation or destruction of everything we hold dear. However, they are not a single entity, but instead a collection of factions, some powerful and some not, each with its own motivations and goals.

  • How do you defeat that?

I wish I knew, <player>. Many lives would be saved if I did! You may have noticed that there are undead here on New Trismus. These undead appear to belong to a faction called The Invae.

  • That's a strange name.

Indeed. The Invae are one of the original and largest factions and are led, so we believe, by an entity from the Outer Realms called the Lord of Flesh or as it is sometimes called, the Maggot Lord.

  • Maggot Lord?

Yes. None alive have seen this creature, but I suspect it must be terrifying to behold and far worse to encounter. We must hope that it never reaches Western Aradoth, though one day I suspect the Gifted will be forced to fight and defeat it if we ever hope to have victory.

  • Why are its minions here?

As I said, <player>, The Invae are large and powerful and his forces are found in many places pursuing the Maggot Lord's inscrutable goals. Be wary when you encounter its forces for it will often have armies populated by blubborous aegror, powerful spellcasters, as well as other deadly constructs of flesh.

  • Where can I learn more?

Knowledge of the Withered Aegis is scattered and inconsistent I am afraid. The fall of Palmyra and Bachan, the invasion of the West, and the more recent destruction of Tazoon have wreaked havoc upon the Enclave's resources and repositories of knowledge.

  • I understand.

Learn what you can from direct confrontation with The Invae and the myriad of other factions you might encounter along the way; the Grim Plague, the Mourning Tide, the Fallen of Rachial, the Undead Horde, the Ebon Guard, and many more. There are numerous factions, some large and some small, but all intent on our destruction. I wish you the best of luck, <player>.
