Ortan Dabbleden has been sent by the New Rachival Research Institute to investigate the Realms that lie beyond the Gate of Embers. He thinks that he has constructed a stable teleporter that will allow bipeds who have obtained the favor of a Dragon into the Fiery Rift.

Greetings, friend. Have you seen any Dragons nearby? They are suspicious of me, I am sure, for my proximity to the Council chambers above greatly unnerves them. I am sure they suspect my motives, but so far they have bought my cover story; that I am prospecting for rare gems and will provide a full accounting to the Council when I am done.
What are my real motives? I desire to gain access to this Gate of Embers and to the Realms that lie beyond! The New Rachival Research Institute requires more information about what lies beyond the Gate. Why don't we simply open a new gate, you ask?
We have tried, but it takes a tremendous amount of energy to open a stable gate to one of the Realms. How the Dragons millennia ago managed it we cannot say, but we have tried to build a gate into the Fiery Rift. Thus the portal you see beside me!
I see that you have earned the favor of one of the Great Dragons! You have with you a Stone of Seeking. I believe if you use this Stone and have the Semblance of Fire about you, you might find that the gate behind me is stable enough for you to enter the Fiery Rift. Are you willing to try?
Now all that is left to do is step through the portal and, well, hope that this works!

- Talk to Ortan
- Use the Stone of Seeking to give yourself the Semblance of Fire, then step through the portal near Ortan and hope you end up in the Fiery Rift.
- Speak with Aratanosh, the Keeper of the Fiery Rift.
