Quest text[edit]
Estelwen tells you, It's good to see you again, <player>. What brings you in today? Ahh, a truffle! Of course, I'll be happy to show you how to prepare it. However, there's something I'd like you to do first. I know, seems like there always is, doesn't it?
Estelwen tells you, This time it's a little different. I'm not sending you on some kind of errand for my benefit; I'm sending you to a teacher who can help you learn something that will help you in the long run. Who is it? Good question! I'm glad you asked.
Estelwen tells you, There's a woman named Toraebel in Kirasanct. She spends a lot of time hanging around near the pawnbroker. You don't need to talk to her, though. You need to talk to Squidgy Too, the little gruok that follows her around. Don't worry, there's nothing to be afraid of. He's a little overly moist and smells like skulk armpit, but he's tame. He is also a skilled truffle gruok.
Take this case with you. It's filled with dirt and rocks, but there's also a leather bag filled with beans that smells like a raw truffle. Squidgy will show you how to dig truffles properly so you get the best yield. Pay attention and bring the case back when you're done.
Squidgy appears to be gnawing on a lump of cobalt ore when you approach. He looks up at you warily, then at the case. He grunts happily, then slides his snout under a flap of skin and returns the drool-covered ore to his belly-pouch. He seems very interested in the case.
Squidgy tells you, Snuffle snuffle grunt snork grunt!
(Set the case down and open it.)
Squidgy immediately starts using his armor-plated snout to break up the dirt & clay in the case. He finds the fake truffle almost immediately and begins working his snout under it and around the edges.
Squidgy tells you, Snork, gruntgruntgrunt snuffle gruntgrunt squeal squeal snork!
(Stand back and watch Squidgy root around)
The last clumps fall away from the practice truffle and Squidgy squeals proudly. He chomps down on the beanbag and refuses to let it go until you give him a pat on the head.
That'll do, gruok. That'll do.
Squidgy tells you, Grunt grunt snork gruntgruntgrunt! Squeal! Snork snork grunt!
Estelwen tells you, So, how did you and Squidgy get along? Well, that's not surprising. He's a gruok, after all. Still, I hope you observed his technique closely. Truffles are rare and it's just a shame not to harvest all of one. Well, here is the recipe for preparing truffles, and one for a 'fiendishly decadent' truffle candy that my friend Kakashi came up with a few years ago.
