I cannot claim I am at peace, <race>, but I have found a measure of it and, for that, you have my thanks. I was angry and it consumed my being, such that it is. I have been torn asunder, leaving part of me behind to vent and rage while the other has been cleansed and I can recall much of my life, and death. I feel remorseful and would atone for what has happened.

What happened?

It began so many years ago. Revion came to the island wishing to be my apprentice. He brought his beloved, Aerlinneil, with him and for a time it was well. Then an evil grew and began to consume me.

What evil?

Jealousy, <player>. It is an evil that festers and drives a man to do terrible things! I grew jealous of my apprentice for Aerlinneil loved him and could never return the love I felt for her. I tried... tried to rid myself of the feelings, but how do you stop loving someone?

I don't believe you can.

It began to drive me mad. I could no longer sleep or eat... I concocted a plan, <player>, one that would remove my apprentice from her life. I knew that he and Aerlinneil would often meet at the old windmill; they would eat and gaze upon the sea. One day he confided in me that he was going to buy her a locket in town. He was so happy and excited!

You killed him?

If only I had with my own hands, <player>. No, I smiled and laughed with him. I should have supported him and relished in the emotion, but all I could see was red. I was angry, I wanted blood, and I decided to follow through on a plan. I hired an assassin of the Penumbral Edge to ambush Revion before he reached the windmill.

The assassin succeeded!

I know and I feel sorrow for his death and remorse for what I did, but it is far too late for all of us. Revion's death destroyed Aerlinneil, but I could not see it. Rather than consoling her I espoused my love for her, telling her she was better off without Revion. That I could offer her more than he ever could!

She did not accept that, did she?

Of course not! Who would? No, she flew into a rage and we fought. My hubris got the better of me, <player>, for it turns out that Aerlinneil had latent magical talent. It manifested itself during the argument and the house, with me inside, burned.

Unfortunately I do not know what became of her after my death. It is possible she died in the fire, she was inside the house when it began, but somehow I doubt it. Perhaps Braekhis knows of her fate?

I... I cannot believe this. Attor had me killed... I thought he was my friend. A fitting end, I say, to be burned by her after he wronged her so. What became of Aerlinneil then, <player>?

Speak to my wife, <player>, she and Aerlinneil spoke often.

Aerlinneil? Yes, I remember that day well. I was out near the pond collecting reeds and I saw her standing, clear as day, atop the rocks near the waterfall. I called out, but she was too far to hear... or chose not to I suppose.

What happened then?

She leapt off the rocks! I ran to the spot, but all I could see was churning water and the rocks below. I saw no sign of her and so far I can tell nobody ever saw her again.

She killed herself?

I believe she did, <player>, in grief over what happened to Revion. Hopefully she found some peace.

She is gone, Revion. You will find her only in the afterlife.
