Speak to Erelald if you need a Beginner Blank Spell Shard formula.
You look rather promising, <player>. Maybe you can help me with something. Ulaven has requested I bring him some spell shards, but he didn't specify the amount. He's paying well, so I have no desire to turn him down, however, making sandstone spell shards is a bit below me, and I'd rather have someone's skills benefit from the task. If you wish to help, make about thirty sandstone spell shards and then bring them to me so that I may confirm the quality. If you're missing the needed formula, speak with me again, and I'll get you set up. It wouldn't make much sense for you to pay me for your help, now would it?
