You have exacted vengeance upon those who betrayed Angwu, but now is the time for Shau's vengeance to finally become a reality. He longs to track down and destroy those who deposed him from the throne and exiled him into the west and, through you, he hopes to channel his rage and thirst for blood.

Quest text[edit]

My time has come at last, <player>. Vengeance, so long delayed, shall be mine and you, my friend, shall be the instrument. Angwu had served me for many years and I counted him as a friend, but his betrayal was small and petty compared to the scale inflicted upon me.

  • He was killed!

Yes, and those who betrayed me will wish they had killed me before we are through with them! Make no mistake, <player>, their blood will stain the stones before we are done.

  • What did they do to you?

It is a sad tale, I fear, filled with tragedy and heartache... you see, I was, as you know, the Emperor and my people lived beyond what you call the Great Barrier. The lands to the east are not entirely blighted, you see, for large parts of the continent are mountainous and few people of any sort live in them.

My people lived in the high mountain valleys and, except for frequent battles against the Myloc, rarely ventured down to the coasts where the Dryad and Satyr lived. It was years after their fall that we learned of it and then began to fear the eventual arrival of the Cabal.

By the time they arrived we had learned much of them and we welcomed them to our lands. The Welger revel in combat and battle, <player>, and so it was our fervent hope to join them in their conquest. Oh, we had no personal stake in the destruction of the other races, except the Myloc, but we rejoiced in the anticipation of combat.

To my never-ending shame, I was the first to bow to the Withered Aegis when they arrived in the hopes of conquest and battle. In the instant that I pledged my fealty and bent knee, my link to Varrantoth was severed. My people, especially the priests, felt it and a pain in their hearts and heads and it was in that moment that the conquest of the Welger by the Cabal was complete.

Fueled by their dark magics, the priests and through them the Withered Aegis inspired an unquenchable lust for blood and glory in my people, one which was easily twisted and perverted to their own uses. It was this lust that led my own council and guard to betray me, you see.

Now, the tale is not complete but I feel the need to rest for I am weary in body and soul. There are eight who betrayed me, <player>, and we shall hunt them down one by one. They will be in the Ruin, of that I am sure, but where I do not know. Return to the Ruin and speak with Zuyazu once again, he will know where they might reside.

You've returned, <player>. Be careful, you are a wanted Saris within the Ruin.

  • Wanted?

Oh yes, the leaders of Varrantoth's Glory have taken notice of your efforts on Shau's behalf and have issued death warrants for you. Keep a watchful eye!

  • I will, thank you.

Good. Now, what can I do for you?

  • I need to find out where Shau's Privy Council and former Wardens can be found.

Well... Shau seeks his vengeance, does he? I cannot say I blame him, though he brought much of this upon himself. It was his hubris that brought the Withered Aegis down upon us, his lust for conquest that led to this sad state my people are now in.
