Quest dialogues, naming tags[edit]

Should quest dialogue be added to the specific questlines? I'm planning on doing a spelling check throughout most of the lower level quests soon (up to Lower Bridgeview for now) and would be willing to copy as much as quest dialogue can find.

on a slightly related note, should the pages for NPCs contain their non-quest dialogue and variations of it? (with variations I mean, for example: Guard A normally talks about how dangerous it is, after you complete a certain questline, their (non-quest related) dialogue might change to thanking you for doing so or commenting that the roads are much safer now, there aren't a lot of NPCs with that kind of mechanic, but I remember seeing some around Kion)

Talking about variations, how should be handle tags like %R% and %N% (race & name)? personally I'd think putting them like [Race], [Name], etc. would work.

This might not be a very big deal, but I'm a major lore hog and would love to re-read quests at times.

(sorry if I messed this up btw, it seems so simple but I can't help but think I make mistakes everywhere ^^; )

Heya Meepsa, good to have you here. On the quest dialogues, it's your own choice how much you are willing to write down. In my personal experience I get tired pretty fast even when I just write down the quest log texts of a quest line. However, there is a trick to get the big chats out of the game. You can read about it here: How to extract long texts from the game There is no rule on lore texts at all since there's almost no lore available in the Wiki (yes, we hope to change that!). My idea on that would be, add a new section in the NPC's page, for example ==Lore== and put the text there. Sections are accessible by other pages so we have a nice structure for whenever we need it.
On naming tags, you may examine on some texts we used <player>. It doesn't matter to use real names/schools/races at all, it's your choice :)
there's nothing messed up at all :) You may use ~~~~ to sign your comments by the way. If you look into the editor you'll learn how to indent text, so this talk will be formatted *cheers*

Linking in NPC chat boxes[edit]

Another thing I'd like to raise would be the way links in dialogue work. I have compiled all of Ryson Stormbringer's dialogue a bit earlier and was wondering how I'd link up the text a as a whole If bringing dialogue text to the Lexica would be a possibility. (perhaps it's own page/catagory for each NPC so it won't clutter the main page? Ryson has well over a few pages worth of dialogue)

For example, in all his dialogue there are 3 (technicly 4) unique links that will take you the the same part of his dialogue.

For now, I have links written down as "and then _some stuff happened_.", and I start each piece of dialogue with: [*Blue Link Text*]

As an example in Ryson Stormbringer's Dialogue:

"First, though, I am guessing you might want to know what it means to be _one of the Gifted_, yes? If not, then by all means -- set forth onto this island and shape your destiny."

[one of the gifted] "Ryson tells you, Indeed (etc.)"

Now I'm sure there are ways on the wiki that we could turn the _*Blue link text*_ into just Blue Link Text or something of the sort.

As for the links that go back to previous parts of dialogue I simply have:

[the purpose of this temple] & [Temple of Istara] ->Return to [Spirit Isle]

Again, I'm just leaving my 2 cents here before I do anything too hastily.

Interesting thoughts you've got there. I just had a brainstorm coming up, hehe. On linking there is only one way to do that. You can link to reference points inside the page. However, you will need to create sections (==my section headline==)above the text you want to be linked to. Then you can create normal wiki links to it ([[{{FULLPAGENAME}}#my section headline|one of the Gifted]]). If you want to avoid creating section headlines, which look ugly from time to time, there is an html alternative. Surround a word or a character using <span id="target1">my target</span>, then call the above link replacing the 'my section headline' accordingly.
If you want to split up the pages for Ryson you may create subpages on his page. You do that by simply adding a slash behind his page name and entering the subpages name, for example: Ryson Stormbringer/Lore page 1. Crosslinking from each page to another using the above is possible of course.
I hope that wasn't too complicated for you, else let me know :)

First of all, thank you very much for the explanation Elteria, it quite helped with souping up the dialogue page (currently Ryson Stormbringer/dialogue), but I just can't seem to get the Section linking to work properly, everytime I try it turns into:
[[Template:Http://www.istaria-lexica.de/Ryson Stormbringer/dialogue#Spirit Isle|Spirit Isle]]
I have tried both the full page URL and just simple "Ryson Stormbringer/dialogue" and "Ryson_Stormbringer/dialogue" but it keeps reverting to the same thing.

Heya Meepsa, you're welcome :) Remove the Template:Http://www.istaria-lexica.de part and you should be good. The domain's URL is added automatically by the system and the 'Template:' is misplaced. Pages in main namespace (that would be 'Main:Ryson Stormbringer/dialogue' in your case) do not need to be signed like that on wiki links.
