Military Rank Badge, Saris Military Rank Badge

You've found an old Military Rank Badge that Guard Shasses doesn't recognize. He suggests you take it to Officer Jurixx in Sslanis to find out more.

Quest text[edit]

Speak to Officer Jurixx near Sslanis south entrance

This one can tell <player> who would, though. Officer Jurixx. That one is the Surplus Officer for Sslanis and if any Sslik would know if this was or ever had been from the Militia, Jurixx would know. This one wouldn't go there until one has gained a bit more experience, though. Officer Jurixx can be rather demanding at times. In any case, <player> will find the Officer near the south entrance of the town. Seek that one out when one thinks one is ready. Oh, and take this, of course.

Hm, this one hasn't seen one of these in years. Yes, it is what <player> thought, a badge of rank used in the Sslanis militia, though not in a very long time. This style was used centuries ago during the Age of Dragon. Back then the Saris ruled most of the land of Lesser Aradoth. The Sslik were still a nomadic people at the time; hated and persecuted throughout the mainland of Aradoth. Kaasha, Maker of the Sslik, directed the Sslik to come here and to make a home. Many, many Sslik died building and defending Sslanis over the years. The blood of Kaasha's children paid for this land, but Sslanis still stands! Now, though, the Withered Aegis defile the resting places of those Sslik who died defending our homeland. This one wishes more could be told, but as explained, the Sslik were a nomadic people and did not keep records. This one knows who might be able to tell you more, though. Sergeant Kipson in Kion. That one is the Saris' Protocol Officer and somewhat of an expert in the history of the Militia. Speak to Kipson to learn more.

Travel to Kion and seek out Sergeant Kipson in the Kion Militia offices to learn more about the Age of Dragon on Lesser Aradoth.

You wish to learn more about the Age of Dragon, eh? Well, I will tell you what I know of that time on the island, though to be honest it is not much. I suppose the best place to start the tale is with Galt and the creation of the Temple at Kiatar.

Galt was a bit of an outsider trying to make a living in Kion, but not doing all that well with it. In the year 2285 B.R., he left Kion with a group of his followers, wouldn't really call them friends, and set out to make a new life for himself. He had some rather strange ideas in architecture, or so was thought at the time. Ended up on a mountain in the middle of this island, actually, and there he built a temple to Merrasat. Not that he'd consulted with anyone back here in Kion about whether a temple was needed, or the design or anything. He just went and built it.

He returned to Kion a few years later, handed over the keys to the temple to the priestess of Merrasat at the time, and disappeared again back into the forests. Galt came back to Kion years later once his designs and techniques were more accepted and built what is now the vault here in the city. It still stands today, actually, you can take a visit if you're curious. But it is his work that really changed Saris architecture forever.

I'm sure you're wondering what all this has to do with the Sslik and an old Commander's rank badge, right? Well, I suspect it has to do with Merrasat's Curse. I can tell you how we would find out for certain, if you are interested..

I thought you might be. There's one rather simple way of finding out the truth about the curse. Travel to the Deadlands and see if you find any more of rank badges which would prove that the dead of long ago rise again. The undead roam near the Deadlands and within the area that was once the Temple itself. If you find a skeleton, mummy or other undead with a rank badge, then we'll know that Merrasat's Curse is real.

Travel to the area of the Lesser Aradoth Deadlands. Search around the outside and see if you find any undead with rank badges. If not, seek inside for the same. Concentrate especially on any undead which are named.

Game Feedback: You have found the badge you were looking for. This should be proof that Kipson's suspicions are true and the undead which appear near the Lesser Aradoth Deadlands are, in fact, shades of soldiers who died long ago defending Merrasat's temple.

Return to Sergeant Kipson in Kion with the Saris Militia Rank Badge.

So it is true. In a way I'm glad, relieved I suppose, that what I thought was true. Merrasat's Curse does exist and the undead which plague our island are being brought to "life" by the curse. This is both good news and bad, of course. But we can discuss that further in a moment. First I must share this news with my superiors. Speak to me after so that we can decide how best to proceed.
