Quest text[edit]

Listen to Officer Frelic

Ah, there you are, <player>. I've received an interesting new toy from the mainland. They've been experimenting with using the Withered Aegis' own necromantic energies against them. According to the instructions I've received, if one follows the proper steps, they can create a technique which disrupts the forces that bind the minions of the Withered Aegis together.

Very well. The first thing you will need to do is collect ten Withered Essence fragments from the Invae's army. The fragments are the concentrated residue left behind from the magic that animates the creatures - though not all may have enough residue to collect. Return to me once you have what I require, and we'll proceed to the next step. Don't let the maggots eat you, <race>!

Collect ten (10) Withered Essence Fragments from the undead of the Rotting Reach or the Deadlands themselves.

Game Feedback: You have collected the fragments Officer Frelic requested. Return to him for your next task.

Return to Officer Frelic in New Trismus with the Withered Essence Fragments.

Excellent, <race>, these will do perfectly. Now, for the counter-agent to this corruption! According to the research the Empire is doing, they have found that the magic of nature itself is a nullifier for the Withered Aegis's magic. When these fragments are combined with aspects of nature, a reaction occurs that nullifies the necromantic energies. It is almost as if the earth refuses to give up its hold over the dead that were buried in it. To get this naturey magic, I request that you obtain ten Cedar Treant Pine Cones from the Cedar Treants in the island's southwest.

Collect 10 Cedar Treant Seed Cones from the Cedar Treant Saplings on New Trismus.

Game Feedback: You have the aspects of nature that Officer Frelic needed. Take them to him.

You have returned! Wonderful. With these final components I can create a new weapon for our fight against the Withered Aegis. Give me one moment, if you would.

  • -- Continue --

Here you are, <player>. Supposedly they are calling this the "Withered Bane" back on the mainland. It doesn't seem that impressive. Just looks like a lump of glowy dirt to me. Oh wait, this last page was stuck together, there's more to the formula.

  • Of course there is.

My, my, my. Hrmp. Well, that does change things a bit. According to this final bit of parchment, you'll need to locate a powerful member of the Withered Aegis. Something stronger than the grunts you gathered the essences from, I'd imagine. It says here that you need to harvest the Blight that have taken hold in the undead's bones. With that last material component, you can complete the Empire's weapon.

  • What counts as 'powerful'?

Return to Officer Frelic with the Cedar Treant Seed Cones and see what other tasks he has for you.

I'm not sure. Though, I have heard rumors of a powerful undead that resides on the Pure Point, the Grand Magus. I'm sure if he were to exist, his bones would be rich in the Blight magic an undead mage casts. I'll warn you, <Adventurer School>; your skills alone may not take you through this trial. You may need to gather others to your side before seeking the Magus out.

Slay the Withered Grand Magus. The Grand Magus can be found on the very northern tip of the island.

Game Feedback: You have slain the Withered Grand Magus. Time to get your hands dirty and get a bone from his body!

Loot the bone from the corpse of the Withered Grand Magus, and complete the Withered Bane.

Game Feedback: From the disgusting corpse, you pull out a blighted bone. This is the final item you need to complete the Withered Bane. Return to Officer Frelic.

Return to Officer Frelic for final instruction on the Withered Bane.

You have the final component? Excellent. Here, I believe this should work. The Magus is likely not the powerful leader the Empire meant, but his bones should have provided enough power to lend your weapon strength. The Withered Bane can be applied to any weapon, spell or claw, provided there is room for the enchantment on the weapon!
