You helped Archwizard Thurid recover Wraith Cores, or Phylacteries as he calls them, from the Wraiths of the Eastern Deadlands. You also helped him cleanse them for his research. Now, he is willing to teach you one more thing, should you be diligent enough.
Quest text[edit]
Thurid tells you, Elteria, you have proven a smidgen of worth to my research efforts and I feel obliged to teach you a thing or two about the greater art of enchantment. To fight against the Undead, you must be strong and know of their ways. Years ago I happened across a method for increasing one's power against these very same undead.
Thurid tells you, Why didn't I give it to the Council, you ask? As a matter of fact, I did offer it to them, but they are too short-sighted and stubborn to accept. You might say it was the cost, but you would be wrong! The Council is wealthy and could more than afford what I demanded in exchange. No, they are too pig-headed to know better! Well, I will show them in time.
Thurid tells you, You, however, have done me two favors and for that I feel as if I would willingly part with the recipe. Do not share it, Elteria! Or I will hunt you down and destroy you where you stand, Gifted or no. Shall we begin?
Thurid tells you, Excellent. The first task, you ask? Elements from the very undead you wish to gain power over, of course. Skeletons, spirits, mummies, zombies, and of course wraiths, they all have one thing in common. Each of them must have a phylactery to give them power, we'll call it their Undead Core. Using it you can create a technique that can be applied to a weapon or claw that will give you power over the undead.
Thurid tells you, I will give you the power to collect these Undead Cores and teach you a small part of my research if you will do one more favor for me. It is a two-part request, Elteria, though the parts are related.
Thurid tells you, Years ago when I was much younger, and much less experienced. Naive some might say, even. *he chuckles* As I was saying, years ago I was determined to take the fight to the Withered Aegis, to use my newfound powers to defeat the leaders of the Cabal and bring peace to the Living Races.
Thurid tells you, It was a foolish and utterly impossible goal, one brought about by youth and inexperience. One which the flush of power can have on a person. Nevertheless, I took it upon myself to travel into the Deadlands to the east and save the world.
Thurid tells you, With me I was accompanied by two good friends. Together we formed a pact and pledged to not rest until it was accomplished! *a shadow of pain crosses his face* They are gone, now. It was my fault, my pride that led them to their deaths. I can never forgive myself for it, Elteria, though I have worked hard for many years to atone for my mistakes and have continued to strive to achieve the pact I swore all those years ago.
Thurid tells you, My point, Elteria, is that it has been almost half a century since that day and I have never heard from my friends again. The details of that day and the encounter are fuzzy for I was grievously injured and lay unconscious while recovering from my wounds for a month or more. When I recovered I searched for word of my companions' fate for months, but was forced to eventually turn to other pursuits.
Thurid tells you, I never forgot about them, despite the years, but I long ago gave up hope of their safe return. Now, the point of this sad tale. Last week I overheard one of Akkator's scouts speaking of a creature they called Kanthis the Foul and my interest was piqued.
Thurid tells you, You see, five decades ago it was this creature, Kanthis, that my friends and I encountered and failed to defeat. We were forced to flee with his forces hot on our heels. In our flight we were separated and I never saw my friends again.
Thurid tells you, I cannot recover my friends, Elteria, but I can take my revenge upon this Kanthis. Go there, defeat him, bring me his skull as proof of the deed and I shall teach you the beginnings of my research. The scouts mentioned that he was in one of the camps just east of here outside of the walls of the Deadlands themselves. Find him, Elteria, and defeat him for me for my fallen comrades!
You have killed Kanthis the foul, now you need to take his skull and bring it back to Archwizard Thurid..
You have looted 1 Kanthis's Skull.
Now that you have Kanthis's skull, you should bring it back to Archwizard Thurid and let him know his revenge is complete..
Thurid tells you, *he takes the skull from your hands* Yes, this is the creature. I remember its foul appearance even after all of these years! You have defeated him, <player>, and have proven your valor and your prowess. You are strong, there is no denying it, and you have successfully been the instrument of my revenge. You have my thanks and as promised a piece of my research. Live and fight well, friend.
