Quest text[edit]

Speak with Tom Haught

<player>, I could not help but overhear you speaking to the so-called Prophet and to Teana about the Cultists in the sands to the south. Might I have a word?

  • Absolutely!

Thank you. You see, I am an archaeologist by trade so I do a lot of digging in the sand and dirt seeking old things and trying to learn about ancient history. I had a nice office and laboratory in Tazoon and was happily cataloguing artifacts recovered by my apprentices for years until six months ago when a new dig was brought to my attention.

  • I see.

Just south of this village, one of my apprentices was digging and began uncovering remarkable artifacts from the time of Nazderon. Well, that was over a thousand years ago so I got very excited and came down here myself!

  • Before the explosion?

Yes, fortunately I was one of the lucky ones. However, not long after the explosion I began to notice strange people in the sands nearby. Tarmor, my guard, said he was keeping an eye on them so I put them out of my mind. Ever since Kaiyar was uncovered there have been those who wander the Great Sandstorm looking for artifacts and treasures of Nazderon.

  • What happened then?

These individuals began to approach the dig and demand that we leave. Tarmor scared them away at first, but they returned with greater numbers again and again. Eventually, we were forced to flee for our lives and this brings us to my reason for wanting to speak with you.

  • Oh?

You see, in my haste to save my head, I left behind my tools. These are no ordinary tools, you see, but finely crafted instruments that allow me to precisely dig without inflicting any damage upon the artifacts. Will you recover them for me?

  • Yes, I will.

Speak with Tom Haught

Excellent! The dig site was located just south of the village near the cliffside. My tools may be scattered about the site, in my work chest, in piles of debris I was sorting through, or they may even have been picked up by the cultists. Here's a key to open the chest with.

Recover Tom's tools at the Archeological Dig Site south of Kaiyar. You can find them on Cultists, in the Debris Piles around the camp (you need to use an Istarian Army Knife or Dragon Intuition ability) or in Tom's chest (Tom gave you a Gold Key to open it)

Game Feedback: You have recovered all the tools! Return to Tom Haught in Kaiyar.

Recover Tom's Exceptional Trowel

Game Feedback: You've located the trowel for Tom!

Recover Tom's Sturdy Mattock

Game Feedback: You've located Tom's mattock!

Recover Tom's Fine Brush

Game Feedback: You found the brush Tom was asking about.

Recover Tom's Steel Sieve

Game Feedback: You have found a steel sieve.

Return to Archaeologist Tom Haught in Kaiyar with his tools

You found my tools! Thank you, <player>, you cannot imagine how much this means to me. You have my eternal gratitude!

Speak with Tom Haught

Here it is! Please, take this as a gesture of my thanks. It's a runestone that I excavated years ago north near Kirasanct. The Fiends speak of runestones as having power, but this one is ancient and so its power, if it ever had any, may have long ago faded to dust. I know little else about it and it has been gathering dust for years in the bottom of my chest. Perhaps you would find more use of it than I.
