Now that you know the basics of combat, Sergeant Gaedin is going to teach you some more complicated tactics.
Quest text[edit]
Gaedin tells you, As a warrior, your strength resides in your weapons and your armor. But there are times when those two alone may not be enough. It is times like those that you need to consider more advanced tactics.
- We already talked about weaknesses and resistances.
Gaedin tells you, That is true, we did, but I am not speaking of those. No, advanced tactics include other concepts such as stuns, roots, and even bleeds. Damage may be the only way to win a battle, but sometimes you must rely upon other tactics to turn the tide of the battle in your favor!

Gaedin tells you, You do not, but you know an ability that is nearly as useful called Heroic Shout. Shouting at your enemy can cause them to become confused for a short period of time, giving you a brief respite from damage and "free" shots at them. It could be the tide that turns the battle if used at an opportune moment.

Gaedin tells you, I want you to go out and battle some spiders. While you're there, practice using Heroic Shout to reduce the damage you take from them. The Brown Spiders inhabit an area to the west of Pratt's Pond, along the road to the windmill and by their nest. Pratt's Pond can be found by following the road southeast out of the square. Check your map to not get lost!
That's enough spiders. Be sure to use Heroic Shout at least twice before you return to the Sergeant.
Reducing the damage you take can improve your survivability. Return to Sergeant Gaedin once you've killed enough spiders.
Gaedin tells you, Well done. I'm sure those spiders were very confused, just before you cut them in half! Hahahah. Well, anywho, talk to me again when you're ready for more.

- Speak with Sergeant Gaedin.
- Kill five (5) Brown Spiders. They lurk the region west of Pratt's Pond, along the road towards the windmill.
- Return to Sergeant Gaedin.
