Any self-respecting Gifted should know how to toughen yourself up with the use of a few spells. Sergeant Gaedin will teach you how.

Quest text[edit]

Gaedin tells you, Soon you'll be off this island and out in the big wide world and on your own, <player>! You'll need to know how to keep yourself prepared for whatever kind of battle you may encounter. One way of doing that is using magical spells to increase your skills and abilities.

  • Spells? I don't know any magic.

Gaedin tells you, Neither do I! Most schools can cast spells if they've learned a little bit of a school that does such as cleric or mage. If you're like me and magic isn't your thing, you're in luck - a few spells don't need magic knowledge at all, only knowledge of the weapons you use. For warriors, these are the Gift of Brawler and Gift of Colossus. They are gift spells that you can cast to increase your skills or damage output respectively.

  • Gift?

Gaedin tells you, Gift spells are uniquely powerful spells. Most spells are simple augmentations that can work alongside each other, but Gift spells have a limit. As you get stronger, you can have up to five active at once. For now, you can only have one. Try this one on for size.

You have received 1 Spell: Gift of Brawler I.

The spell surges through your veins, empowering you with a keener knowledge of physical combat skills.

Gaedin tells you, Feeling tougher, <player>? *Gaedin laughs.* Don't get too comfortable. Just like you, enemies can use boons that increase their own power. They may even be able to counter your own boons by dispelling them or cast banes that detriment you. This is more common with the Withered Aegis.

  • How do I get more spells?

Gaedin tells you, Here in New Trismus, Resliak the Great sells many spells, but most are crafted by Gifted like you. Scholars and spellcrafters are knowledgeable in piecing together spells. For a warrior, you largely will not be using spells, so do not worry yourself too much. For now, I just want you to try out your new power.

  • -- Continue --

Gaedin tells you, Gift of Brawler in this state is only a small increase, but a little goes a long way. Go find the Agh'kuk Scouts. They're pygmies - and may just have more intelligence than some of my trainees. Cull five of them, then return here. They are located by the Lookout Camp. Do you see the odd beach with the four rocks on your map, on the west side of the island? That's where their tribe is located.

You have slain enough Agh'kuk Scouts. Return to Sergeant Gaedin.

Gaedin tells you, Agh'kuk Scouts are always refreshing to duel with. It is sad they do not work with us Living Races - their strength is to be admired. Anyway, I hope the Gift you casted served you well. Be sure to refresh it every few hours - the effects only last so long. Now, one last thing.

  • What is that?

Gaedin tells you, Remember how I mentioned scholars? Scholars specialize in scrolls. Scrolls are unique items that contain the magic of a spell, but do not need knowledge of spellcasting to use. They have a wide variety of uses - from shielding you to aiding in travel - but I only have a few simple ones on me. Take them. They can help you in your travels. If you want more, you'll need to find a Gifted scholar or learn the trade yourself!

You have received 3 Enhance Armor I.

You have received 3 Enhance Health I.

Steps[edit]

  • Speak again with Sergeant Gaedin.
  • Defeat five (5) Agh'kuk Scouts on the western beach of New Trismus. The Agh'kuk Scouts are located west of the Lookout Camp, on the beach with four large rocks on the western coast of New Trismus.
