Quest text[edit]

Ryson tells you, The very reason you are standing before me now is evidence of your possession of the Gift. The Gift is a term we use for those of us who have been affected by an incantation, otherwise known as the Ritual of Life Everlasting, that engulfed the land and changed the way of life for many mortals of Istaria. We have essentially become... immortals. No longer will we fear death, for death is only a slight inconvenience now.

Ryson tells you, You have just died somehow, though your body and soul have not departed to the Realm of Spirit like they should have done. You are as strong and ready to face the battle to the Withered Aegis as you were when you first entered a battlefield. This is evidence of your gift, the very proof that you have been caught in the spell's effect.

Ryson tells you, The Withered Aegis threaten to destroy our very existence and take over the entirety of Istaria. You will learn more about them as you go on your journey; it has become impossible for the Living Races to avoid the hordes of undead and abominations that plague our land. For now, I suggest you choose what your role will be. A choice presents itself.

Ryson tells you, The land of Istaria offers many skills and experiences that you may like to take part in. You can craft armors and weapons with the finest metals or become a powerful fighter that would cause even the undead to think twice before attacking. If you cannot choose, do not fear - for you can experience all of what Istaria offers if you invest the time.

Ryson tells you, Please speak to Cellardus and Gravus to get briefed on the available schools that you can currently join. When you're finished talking to them, speak to me again and I will guide you to your next task. No worries - soon enough you may forge your own path in this great world, Gifted!

Cellardus tells you, Hello there <player>, and welcome to Spirit Isle. I'm sure you have many questions, and that is why we are here - to answer the questions we can and help you find the answers to those we cannot. My name is Cellardus, and I am able to introduce you to the various schools of combat that the Empire has standardized.

Cellardus tells you, There are two main categories of combatative schools, Saris. The smaller category contains four schools. These schools are referred to as the 'base schools'. They require nothing to join and begin learning. These are the Warrior, Scout, Mage, and Cleric schools. I can give you a short description on each, but it is best you ask the trainers in Fortshire down the hill. Otherwise, there are the more advanced prestige schools that I may describe to you if you wish.

Cellardus tells you, Warriors focus on a hard defense and strong offense and are able to wield nearly all the weapons and all the armor available to us. Mages are the opposite - they are ranged dealers of damage, but can hold themselves against very few attacks since they only wear weak cloth armor. Scouts can take some hits, but are best at keeping enemies at range, firing at them with long-ranged short- or longbows. Finally, Clerics are group-based healers, using their life skills to help improve the abilities of and heal their friends. They, too, can wear platemail and are able to take a hit for their friends if need be. Would you like to hear any other information?

Cellardus tells you, There are seven trainers in Fortshire, of which four are Adventure trainers. Triston, a human, is the Warrior trainer. Beware for he can be a bit too eager to fight. Admetus, a fiend, is our Mage trainer. He is the opposite of pleasant, but he is a good Mage at least. Lauri, an elf, trains Clerics and is very dedicated to her goddess, Istara. Finally, there is Trinket. She is a Scout trainer, but be careful when approaching her; she lost her sight in the Battle of New Trismus. Would you like to hear any other information?

Cellardus tells you, Some Adventure schools require you to have some skills already under your belt before you are allowed to join them. These schools are Prestige Schools. Ranger, for instance, is one of them. To become a Ranger, you must have a certain quantity of base skill in Bow and Nature before any Ranger trainer will teach you. How you acquire those is up to you, but you must have them. Prestige trainers are found throughout Istaria, in cities or out in the wilds, and will be a wonderful asset to you later on. Prestige schools offer the best avenues of specialization - I hope you find your favorite, Gifted. Would you like to hear any information about any other schools?

Gravus tells you, Hail, Gifted! And welcome to Spirit Isle. I'm sure you have many questions, and my companion and I shall endeavor to assist you and answer any questions you may have. My name is Gravus, and I would be more than happy to speak with you further about the various trade schools that we have here in Istaria.

Gravus tells you, Of all the trade schools, there are two sections we tend to think of them in: the base schools and the prestige schools. Base schools require nothing to join and begin learning. These are the Blacksmith, Outfitter, and Scholar schools. I can give you a short description on each, but it is best you ask the trainers around Fortshire - the village down the hill. Otherwise, there are the more advanced prestige schools that I may describe to you if you wish.

Gravus tells you, Blacksmiths are the creators of all things tool-related. Every other school relies on Blacksmith to make the tools they need for them. Similarly, Outfitters produce all the armor, causing all adventure schools to rely on an Outfitter at least once. There are also Scholars, the crafters of spells and scrolls - they forge magic out of stone and essence. Would you like to hear any other information?

Gravus tells you, There are seven trainers on Spirit Isle. Three of them are Crafting trainers. Jaspine, a dryad, is a Scholar trainer. She is small, so keep your eyes open. Dmineth is a satyr and an Outfitter, mastering Flax. Our Blacksmith is Wulfgar, who usually sits by the mines. He's strong, but he has a bad leg, so don't bring any danger to him that he can't outrun. Would you like to hear any other information?

Gravus tells you, Oh, there is much more out there, <player>. Many other trade-schools, such as Alchemist, Spellcrafter, Confectioner, Mason, and many others. They are called Prestige schools and you will need to learn more of the base schools - Blacksmith, Outfitter, Scholar - before you are eligible to join those schools. The trainers for Prestige Schools are found throughout Istaria - just seek them out! Would you like any other information about any other schools?

Ryson tells you, Have you spoken to both Gravus and Cellardus? Good, good. Now, this Temple we stand in was constructed on this island shortly after the Ritual of Life Everlasting was performed, its purpose is to assist you and others who have just discovered their gift. Recently, Spirit Isle has also become home to citizens who have escaped the Battle of New Trismus. They have established a settlement on our Island that they have been calling Fortshire. Many are experts in the base trades and schools of this land - living on Spirit Isle, they have taken up training new Gifted in them. Do you follow? Great - speak to me again when you are ready to continue, fellow Gifted.
