You have reached the point in your growth that Avariatus feels you should learn more about Dragon culture and society. He feels that you need to learn about the Helian faction because you will be required to choose a faction later on in your development.

Quest text

Avariatus tells you, It is good that you wish to learn more about the Helian faction, <player>. There is much in our history that is difficult to tell and hard for the young to understand. You see, long before the naka-duskael formed their civilizations, we Dragons ruled the lands and the skies. All were subservient to our desires and that rule was unquestioned by those of the Lesser Races.

Avariatus tells you, But, as with all things, there comes a time when they must end. We grew complacent over the centuries and allowed the Humans to grow unchecked. Eventually they began making demands of us, even attacking us, and it was then that we realized something had to be done!

Avariatus tells you, There were two schools of thought among Dragonkind as to how we should deal with these upstart humans. The first school was led by a mighty dragon by the name of Malganival Lunus. Malganival was a great military leader of our people and called for a heavy-handed approach to the humans. The second school was led by a great scholar of the time named Helian.

Avariatus tells you, Helian believed that the rise of the other races represented a challenge by which Dragonkind should rise to. If we were truly the most enlightened and advanced race in Istaria, then we should seize the reins of leadership and lead all the races into the future.

Avariatus tells you, While our people debated the humans grew more and more numerous and more demanding. Eventually our society cracked under the strain and centuries of debate, resulting in what is now known as the Great Schism. The Great Schism led to the formation of what are now known as the Lunus and Helian factions. It also led to the willing exile of some of our people from our homeland near Dralk, to a new homeland in what is now known as Chiconis. To this day, the debate which sparked the Great Schism still rages among the scholars and warriors of our race.

Avariatus tells you, With the rise of the Withered Aegis and the fall of Rachival and then Feladan, the Helians chose to support the new Alliance of all Living Races to fight against a common, more dangerous and deadly foe. To this day, the Helian faction continues to support the Peace Accords and The Imperial Council from their home in Chiconis.

Avariatus tells you, Those Dragons that choose to follow the path of Helian typically favor leadership, knowledge and scholarly study before all other paths. Meditate upon the Scholarship of our forebears at the shrine at the center of New Trismus. Do this and I shall assist you in the making of a Chest Scale imbued with the properties of a follower of Helian.

You have arrived at the Shrine. Though now burned by the recent attacks, it still remains a place one can meditate. Meditate here upon the nature of the Helian belief that Avariatus spoke of.

Avariatus tells you, Ah, good, you have returned from your pilgrimage. Now that you have had time to reflect upon the Helian Way, would you still value the ideals of scholastics and leadership? If so, bring me a Bronze Focus Chest Scale and I will imbue it with the properties of a follower of Helian.

Avariatus tells you, Fine work young dragon! The skill of focus is one of the basic properties of Primal magic and will serve you well in your pursuit of scholarship and leadership. Give me a few minutes to imbue the scale and then return here to me.

• Bring Avariatus a Bronze Focus Chest Scale

• Wait 5 minutes for Avariatus to Imbue the Focus Scale
• Collect the Imitation Scale of the Prime
