BattleMaster Avariatus thinks you need to be a bit more prepared before training.

Quest text[edit]

Speak with BattleMaster Avariatus.

So you want proper training, do you? You've come to the right place. As a dragon, you have many challenges and adventures ahead of you that other races do not. You also have fundamental differences in your combat style that need special training. For instance, rather than a sword and armor, you have your claws and scales.

  • We need nothing more.

Correct. Unlike the naka'duskael, we are naturally built for combat, but it's still a dangerous and unforgiving world. Going into battle unprepared is not only unwise, but it could cost you dearly. Maybe not your own life, but the lives of your allies who do not have the gift. We need gifted like you to fight for those who cannot return.

  • -- Continue --

As you've learned from Skalkaar, assuming Jemenoth and Karkath did their jobs, you can enhance your combat ability by creating special claws and scales that improve your talents. The enemies here on New Trismus are a bit stronger than those on Skalkaar, so you need to prepare yourself accordingly. Sending you out to practice crafting is Kerian's job, but I know of an easier way to get some upgraded gear.

  • Anything beats crafting.

Hah! Don't let her hear that. We need properly armed soldiers if we hope to stand a chance against the Withered Aegis, and not everyone has the talent or patience to make it themselves. Of course, other Gifted might lend a claw, and there is special repaired gear made from scraps you can find in combat, but if you have a bit of coin, you can buy very basic equipment from a Militia Surplus Officer. If Steward Pratt McGrubben did his job, you should have met the naka'duskael in town with that title. I'll never understand how Valkoth agreed to supply the naka with our equipment to sell back to us, but it's how it is. Go now.

Oh, hello, <player>. Are you interested in buying some equipment?

  • BattleMaster Avariatus sent me to get a better claw.

Oh, I see. I'm assuming he didn't give you any coin to buy this claw with, correct? That dragon... sending newly Gifted to me empty-handed. It's like he has no respect for running a business. Very well, I will give you a claw, and it will be free of charge as long as you can help me with a little problem.

  • A little problem?

Find and speak with Officer Frelic at the armory in New Trismus Square.

I need strong leather to tighten the straps on some of the equipment. Sadly though, Geoff wasn't selling any, and the crafters on the island are all too busy! But since you're here and you seem able enough, perhaps you could get me pelts from the local brown wolves. Fetch about four pelts, and then we can see about getting you a new claw.

Defeat enough Wolves to loot three (3) Brown Wolf Pelts in the forest south of the main town between it and Trueheart Rise.

Game Feedback: You have looted enough pelts for Officer Frelic, time to return to him.

Hello again, dragon. Did you get the pelts I needed? Ah, excellent.

  • What about my Claw?

Return to Officer Frelic.

Oh, yes. Here you are - a claw fit for a dragon! As an extra bonus, this one has an enhancement embedded into it. A thank you for your kindness, if you will. Now, if you want anything else, you're going to have to buy it. Dragon claws and scales are specially ordered from dragon crafters, and they are not cheap. I can't just be giving them away.

There you are. I'm assuming this means you got a new claw from Officer Frelic then?

  • Yes, I did.

Return to BattleMaster Avariatus.

Good. I see Officer Frelic also gave you one with a technique. Dragon claws require enhancements on them called techniques to be used correctly; without a technique, it's rather useless. Claws are usually crafted with them, but some quests and vendors will offer special drag and drop techniques that can be applied to blank equipment. Got that? Now that you're better equipped, we should get started with your training.
