Quest Text

Khemarius tells you, 'Welcome, friend. Has the Eternal Flame of Drulkar guided you to this out of the way locale? Perhaps, perhaps not... In any case, it is a welcome sight to see pupils coming to my home. I have been working with the fiends, you see. We were hoping to find some of Niatha Moraven's tomes in what was rumored to be an ancient temple of hers. In those tomes we may find secrets to defeating the Withered Aegis. I'm also sure the blue-skinned naka-duskael would like to know more of their deity.

What we found was altogether different. We excavated a crystal in the Kirasanct Mountains - a draconic memory crystal, to be exact. Though, this one is unique. Memory crystals created by our kind normally respond only to our kind. They speak to our ancestral memories. This magic opens something of a scrying device, a method for seeing another place, or, in this case, another time. As I said, normally these crystals do not react at all when touched or gazed upon by a biped; this one, however, reacted to the touch of one of my fiendish companions, Akhanis. Being the scholars we are, we immediately moved the crystal back to Kirasanct and began research.

Between our understanding of the dragon tongue, Spirit magic, and Primal magic we were able to tap into the messages left inside. We know not which Elder left this in the mountains. What we do know, however, is that this crystal unlocks the secrets of a technique to drain the vitality from a foe from afar. Exciting, isn’t it?'

Khemarius tells you, 'Would you like me to teach you the ways of the Drain Bolt? I'm only beginning to master it myself, butI'll do what I can to tutor you. Most of what I've learned comes from meditating and looking into the crystal. I spend more time talking to people who understand spirit magic than doing actual field study. Perhaps you can help me there. Talk to Akhanis, he can set you on the road necessary to understand spirit magic. After you are finished with him, he'll have you return to me for some field work. Please excuse his behavior - he has a bit of an inflated opinion of himself.'

Akhanis tells you, 'Can I help you? I’ve a manicure in fifteen minutes and I simply cannot be late. Khemarius sent you? Moraven give me strength. Yes, I have information regarding spirit magic. I simply have no time to explain it all to you, not that I think most drakes could fathom it. Anyhow, here is a spare tablet detailing the practice and merits of spirit magic. Take it and study it very hard. If you have any questions go speak to Kamilari in Kion. She'll be more apt to have time to chat. Now, if you'll excuse me...'

After reading the tablet and feeling a bit insulted, you do indeed understand the uses and merits of the application of Spirit magic. Now, if only you could use it... Perhaps this Kamilari can provide some more insight.

Kamilari tells you, 'Greetings, friend <name>. Have you come to ask why Gerix seems to take the best spot for sunning ones self? That's a rather popular question, actually. Oh. You want to know about Spirit magic? Why does a dragon want to know that? Akhanis sent you? Now I'm really suspicious. Let me see that tablet.

Oh, that fiend is so rude! He took no time to explain how we bipeds channel life from other beings? My apologies for my colleague; he often forgets that pleasantries make the world go around.

Hmmm... You must have spoken to Khemarius. He spent some time with me recently asking the same questions you are. He really is quite charming for a dragon - no offense. In any case, it really is quite simple for our kind. Once you gather an understanding of the way we channel magic and the biology of all things living, you can draw upon their life blood, or in some cases essence, and draw power from it. I'll give you some scrolls I give to my beginning students and chances are you'll figure the intricacies out on your own.

After reading these scrolls you do indeed understand the basic principles regarding life stealing. Perhaps it's time to speak to Khemarius again.

Khemarius tells you, 'Ah, you're back. Have you been keeping to your studies? I should hope so. Knowledge is power my friend, just as much as tactics are. When you think yourself ready to help me with a little field work, all you have to do is ask.'

Khemarius tells you, 'All set? Excellent. You begin to understand Spirit magic. I need to be sure that you understand the principals of primal energies as well. I'll need you to use the following spells in combat at least five times each in order to acquaint yourself with our magic. Go use Galewind, Gust, Prime Bolt, and Tempest on any creatures you see fit. Please use only the basic, unaltered forms of each spell. Afterwards, return to me and we shall see if you can grasp how to use the Drain Bolt.'

Hopefully, you now have the knowledge to grasp how to do this; I myself admit that it is difficult. Please do not be discouraged if this technique does not work for you. You'll simply need more training.

Now, gaze into this crystal and let your mind wander. Share your memories with the creator of this memory crystal and infuse your mind with the Prime Bolt.'

As you gaze into the smoky crystal shard, it slowly clears until a scene of carnage appears around you. There are ogres everywhere. You make mystic passes with your claws and the ogre before you topples to the ground, clutching its chest. For a brief moment you feel connected to the ancestral memories of your proud race. Life slows to a crawl and there is a brief flash. When your mind clears, the secret of the Drain Bolt is yours.

Steps

• Speak to Akhanis the Spiritist Trainer in Kirasanct about the basics of Spirit magic.
• Speak to Kamilari the Spiritist Trainer in Kion.
• Return to Khemarius back at his home outside the city of Kirasanct.
• Use Galewind 5 times in combat
• Use Gust 5 times in combat
• Use Prime Bolt 5 times in combat
• Use Tempest 5 times in combat
• Return to Khemarius near Kirasanct and tell him your task is complete. You must have Kamilari's Scrolls for the Spiritually Challenged with you when you speak to Khemarius.
