Ulaven the Mage wants to teach you about spells and their skill types.

Quest text[edit]

Ulaven tells you, Aha! Another magic enthusiast from Spirit Isle! Unless I'm mistaken, and I've been known to make some... let's say, explosive miscalculations, but you seem interested in learning more about being a Mage. Is that right?

  • Yeah, that's correct.

Ulaven tells you, We should get started right away then! Plenty to learn for an aspiring Mage and plenty to do with the knowledge it brings. With ten different types of magic skills, there's a lot to cover. First of all, we should talk about the kinds of magic you'll use in this school, most importantly, Flame and Energy.

  • Flame and Energy?

Ulaven tells you, That's right! Those are your two most valuable skills as a Mage, if you stick with this school, you'll learn these skills faster as you level up, and a lot of your spells and abilities are based on their power. Each school has a specific skill or skills that it specializes in, so if there are any particular spells you want to learn you may have to change schools.

  • -- Continue --

Ulaven tells you, While you were on Spirit Isle, you likely learned the spell Flame Bolt as well as the Fireball Ability. Those both use the Flame Skill, and for the sake of demonstration, I'm going to give you this Energy Bolt spell. This spell is quicker to cast but does less damage per hit than the Flame Bolt spell. Speed or damage? Flame or Energy? I want you to compare them by fighting some Brown Wolves that you'll find in the woods hunting the deer. Return to me when you've defeated enough wolves and used your new energy bolt.

That should be enough practice with Energy Bolt for Ulaven's purposes. Return to him once you've killed enough Brown Wolves.

You have defeated the Brown Wolves! Return to Ulaven the Mage once you have practiced with Energy Bolt enough.

Ulaven tells you, There you are! So tell me then, do you feel like you have more knowledge about spells and their differences now?

  • Yes, anything else I should know?

Ulaven tells you, Aha! Well done, Elteria. And yes, there's still plenty more for you to learn. I'll start with a simple explanation of spell types. Flame Bolt and Energy Bolt are known as "Repeaters" because they replace your general attack and keep casting if you have nothing else prepared. Some spells do damage over time, such as Immolate, and other spells will protect you from harm by making it so your opponent can no longer move. We'll talk about those more later, for there is something else we should do first. Return to me when you're ready to continue our lessons.

Steps[edit]

  • Speak with Ulaven the Mage.
  • Defeat five (5) Brown Wolves in the forest south of the main town between it and Trueheart Rise.
  • Use Energy Bolt four (4) times.
