Quest text[edit]
The scroll you found on the undead arcanist may contain information on the undead weaponry. Ulaven, the mage trainer, may be able to decipher its contents.
Ulaven: A scroll! I'm guessing I am not to burn this one, eh? Let me see!
Player: Zandra thought you could decipher its contents. <Hand over the scroll.>
Ulaven: I sure can! But it may take a moment or two. Come back in a few minutes, and I should have something for you.
Step 1: Wait a minute for Ulaven to decipher the scroll.
After a minute, you will see the prompt: 'Ulaven should be done by now.' Speak to him again by right clicking, or selecting him and hitting G.
Ulaven: It's a pretty tricky one, this scroll. Undead fingers aren't the best for writing, I bet! *He chuckles.* Anyway, it appears to be some sort of explosion spell. I haven't been able to figure out exactly how it works, but it's definitely about concentrating and then releasing a lot of magic energy very quickly.
Player: An explosion? That doesn't sound good.
Ulaven: It depends who's casting it! When it's the undead, for sure, that's not good. Very not good. Speak with Captain Bortol and Sergeant Barak; they should be informed of this potential threat immediately. Don't worry about Zandra - I enjoy a good trip to town!
Player: Where are they?
Ulaven: You'll find Sergeant Barak here in this camp, he should be busy preparing the soldiers. Captain Bortol, however, is a bit farther away at the Lookout Camp to the west. There's a shortcut through the Ruined Homestead that will take you there in no time. See that tunnel nearby where you came in? Go through there and you'll be there in no time! Just watch out for the ghosts!
Step 2: Speak with Sergeant Barak in the Cliffside Camp.
Barak: Report, Gifted. You seem concerned.
Player: I found a scroll on an undead arcanist detailing an explosion spell.
Barak: Explosions? I'll double my guard here, but that sounds like a concern for Bortol. His camp is watching over a weak point in the southern deadlands wall. If there's any good place for an explosion...
Player: I was heading there anyway. Thank you, Sergeant.
Barak: Stay safe, Gifted.
Step 3: Speak with Captain Bortol at the Lookout Camp. You can access it directly by using the tunnel nearby the path back into town. The tunnel runs by dangerous ghosts, so be careful.
Bortol: Hi, Dragon. What's the matter?
