A contagion, corruption, has spread from the nearby Dead Pool into the surrounding forests. The once wild Brownback wolves have become diseased and foul and are attacking travelers and farmsteads alike! You collected their diseased hearts and delivered them to Julius Scipionis, a noted but arrogant Scholar, in South March. Now, he feels he knows how to stop the pestilence once and for all.

<player>, its about time you returned. These hearts, while fascinating, are beginning to smell quite bad! But, I persevered and forced myself to study them despite the stench. What I found was quite interesting indeed.
They are quite enlarged, owing to this pestilence, but rather than becoming weak as one might expect from a diseased heart these appear to be quite strong. I suspect that is why the brownback wolves afflicted with this pestilence are so ferocious. But, that matter aside I have spoken with some travelers who passed near to Slate Crest mere days ago.
It appears that Private Torrin failed to mention a particularly large and ferocious brownback in the forest. Larger than the rest, likely the Alpha of the pack. As the Alpha is the first to partake in a kill it is likely the Alpha himself that is the source of this pestilence. He was first infected, he will be spreading it to the others.
Your task, then, <player>, is clear. Return to Slate Crest and discover the whereabouts of this Alpha. Kill it and the pestilence will be averted. Go now, and take these hearts with you for I can stand the stench no longer!

<player>, there you are! I had begun t' worry for your safety. More travelers have been wounded down 'n the valley by the brownbacks an' I feared you might've been among them! But here y'are.... what news from South March? An Alpha spreading the Contagion? Aye, I c'n see that. An' travelers have reported seeing a massive brownback prowling the forest. That mus' be it! Well done, <player>. Seek out this Massive Diseased Brownback an' kill it!
