Recover Artifacts from the Dead Pool to investigate their Residual magic.

Quest text[edit]

Dreveon tells you, Ah, so I was right! There is something important about the Dead Pool. I knew a man once, thought himself quite the expert no that area of the world, actually. Goes by the name of Julius. Last I knew he'd settled somewhere around South March. Seek out his opinion on the matter.

Julius tells you, So you've come to learn more about the area the Gifted call "The Dead Pool", eh? Well, you are in luck, <Player>, as it happens to be an area I'm familiar with. Dreveon was right to send you to me. It is good you have decided to seek my expertise in the matter. Of course, I feel it necessary to warn you that "The Dead Pool" is an extremely dangerous place.

Julius tells you, It isn't just the Withered Aegis that make the area so dangerous. The area itself exudes an aura of magic most vile and twisted. Many a brave soul such as myself has gone in to the area in search of the artifacts to be guarded by the Aegis only to return quite mad. I, of course, did not suffer such a fate. but my own expedition into the Dead Pool was cut short by the weakness of my companions Alas, we returned before truly breaching even the edge of the heavily guarded temple.

Julius tells you, As you saw on the map, the whole area around the Deadpool was once simply forest. My research has proven that it was first settled during the Age of Dragons by a sorcerer known only as Crankenspank. Crankenspank had been trained by Nazedron in the ways of magic, and so knew more about the source of magical power in Istaria than most humans. What concerns me most is that Nazedron was an evil sorcerer who had been trusted and trained by Dragons in the use of magic. If he passed what he had learned to Crankenspank, I truly can not predict what he might be capable of. He secluded himself deep within the forest and built a fortress. From there he began to form his army. But he eventually abandoned this small fortress, or temple, or whatever he had been using the area for, and moved on. That is another story though.

Julius tells you, What we're concerned about, or should be, is why Crankenspank built his fortress in this area. And what the Withered Aegis who control it now are trying to find. From what I can tell, they gained control of it at the same time as they destroyed the Observatory. I can only assume that the two are somehow connected. The clues lie within the Deadpool though. There must be something which remains there that would give us the insight we need to determine why this area is so important. You should go to the Dead Pool. Defeat the Aegis that guard this temple, make your way into the very heart of the ruins. Find me artifacts of magic, a scroll, something which would aid me in my research.

You have looted 1 Tattered Scroll.

On one of the fallen Cabal Guards, you've found a fragment of a scroll. The writing is ancient and incomprehensible to you, but perhaps this is what Julius is looking for?

Julius tells you, What is this? You found this on one of the guards? Unbelievable. Interesting. Very interesting indeed. Of course, it will take me time to analyze this. Naturally, though, I can not do so with you yammering at me. While I study, returun to the Librarian of Ages in Dalimond. See if he has any record of what may have been used in the temple.

Librarian tells you, An ancient temple during the age of Dragons, you say? That would not be Cleric's Tower. Let me see. One moment.

Steps[edit]

  • Seek out a man by the name of Julius. He's said to have settled in South March. Follow the road south past Vagrant's Rest, Slate Crest, and down to the southern coast of Aradoth Island until you reach the community of South March.
  • You have agreed to travel to The Dead Pool and search for artifacts of magic for Julius. Unfortunately he wasn't very specific in what to look for so hopefully you will know it when you find it. The Dead Pool is the blighted region north of South March, just east of Vagrant's Rest.
  • Return with the Tattered Scroll to Julius in hopes that he can make sense of the writing.
  • Return to Dalimond and speak to the Librarian of Ages.
