A special blade has been commissioned, and helps is needed in gathering a few materials in order to create the prototype.

Would <player> be interested in handling a very important matter for Kerrak? Sshranu the alchemist is working on a special project and is requesting a quantity of flame essence. Sshranu says that flame wisps are only found in the Kion volcano. Getting there can be dangerous, but Kerrak thinks <player> is quick and clever enough to avoid the dangers. The main danger is the fire golem Turoth, who also lives in the volcano. If <player> can acquire twenty flame essence and deliver them to Sshranu, Kerrak will be very thankful.

Nassath sent you, eh? Well, let me see what we have here. Hmmpf. Nassath must be really agitated. I can barely read this note. Ugh. Something, something, muffin frosting, wumpus shoving leopard? I'm sorry, this is going to take a few minutes. Nassath's spelling, handwriting, and grammar all just fall apart when he gets upset. Oh, you noticed? At least you were able to figure out the intent. Nassath told me once that his clan was from the swamp region south of Harro, and that they speak a different dialect from most other Sslik. Hm? Yes, I know Sslik aren't 'he' or 'she', but this is the way I talk and 'he' is a lot more polite than 'it'. Aha! Looks like Nassath is trying to do a Cobretti temper. It makes a damn fine blade if done right, but it's never going to work like this. Let me make a few notes here and you can take all this back to Nassath.

Flame essence contains a compound called phlogiston, which can be distilled into this really hot, sticky slime that soaks up and retains heat, but breaks down in the presence of water. The face of the blade has to be totally dry when the phlogiston is applied or the stuff rots. When you quench the blade the edges cool fast and harden enough to hold a good edge. The phlogiston absorbs heat from the forge and then pumps it into the core of the blade. The core cools slowly, which makes the blade springy and durable.

Here you are. Please take these notes back to Nassath. Sslanis is in a very humid tropical jungle. The moisture in the air is enough to ruin phlogiston in minutes even if you keep every speck of condensation off the blade. There's an Imperial ore station east of Nuthala. It's out of the wind at the end of a box canyon surrounded by rock. He can try the process there. He also needs to pack ice around the quench tank or the phlogiston will reheat the blade and ruin it. That's what happened to these ingots. Now, here's something for you.

You didn't fall asleep during my little lecture, which was very polite of you. Good manners should be encouraged, so here's some coin for your trouble. I'm sure you'll have no problem finding something to spend those on. If you do, speak to one of the many crafting trainers in town and they can explain what they are used for. Kill 10 of the strongest bronze boulder golems you can find, and collect their hearts for Ssoren.

So Jeysta Maaltas was able to show Nassath the way? Excellent! Things are progressing well with the new militia. Now Ssoren wishes to create a new symbol for the militia members to carry. Ssoren has commissioned the creation of a special sword. The design is finished, and it is time to make the prototype. Ssoren needs <player> to get the metal for the blade. Not just any metal will do, however. Making this blade requires golem hearts. Those are masses of exceptionally pure material which has been pulled to the center of a golem's being by the force that animates it. Only the strongest of golems will have hearts large enough for this purpose. Ssoren needs ten of them. Go quickly and return, then Ssoren shall tell <player> of the second item that is needed.

Excellent, excellent! These are exactly what the blade requires. Now you must take the materials to Nassath immediately.

Steps

• Deliver twenty (20) Flame Essence to Sshranu in Sslanis. The only known location for gathering flame essence is in the Kion Volcano. When there, be careful to avoid the fire golem known as Turoth.
  • Flame Wisps are located just slightly above Kion, inside a lava stream.
• Speak with Nassath
• Take Nassath's ingots to Jeysta Maaltas in Mahagra.
• Return the annotated log book to Nassath
• Speak to Ssoren to learn about the militia blade.
• Loot 10 bronze boulder golem hearts for Ssoren. Bronze Boulder Golems wander the mine fields between Kion and Sslanis near a town named Parsinia.
• Take the golem hearts to Ssoren
• Speak to Nassath as soon as possible about the forging of the blade.
• Wait for Nassath to finish tempering and sharpening the prototype sword.

• Nassath has finished the blade
• Take the prototype blade to Ssoren
