Quest text[edit]

We meet again, <player>. Your visit for the polished azulyte prisms has my mind awhirl with the possibilities. I began thinking of this emerald you mentioned and I could not stop. It has consumed my waking thoughts!

  • Your help was invaluable and we confirmed the emerald's identity as a result. Thank you.

You are most welcome, of course. I wonder, perhaps, if they might let me see it... even for a moment. This emerald, surely it cannot be truly unique. We have learned much over the last few years about the nature of crystals and primal magic and I am sure, if I could inspect it, I could possibly make another. What do you say?

  • You think you can make another Emerald of Dahm'a'mun? It is ancient and they claim Brobbet gave it to them!

Well, I can assure you that humility has never been a virtue I was cursed with much of. Hahah. I do not know if I could create something just like the emerald, but surely there is something to be learned simply from inspecting it. No harm will come to the gemstone, I assure you.

  • I will speak with Gulnor.

Speak to Ahassunu

Very well. I will wait here for your return.

<player>, what can I do for you?

  • <You tell him of Ahassunu's request.>

Speak with Gulnor the Elder about Ahassunu's request

Surely you jest, <player>? I trust you, you recovered the emerald for us after all, but I do not trust this Ahassunu. What has this dragon ever done for the Dwarves? No, I'm sorry, but I cannot let the emerald go... even for a short time.

Did you get the emerald, <player>?

  • No, they won't let it go easily. They don't trust others.

Fools. Their reluctance is understandable, but still they are fools nonetheless for not seeing the larger benefits. Well, let us consider this for a moment. The treasure is valued and that is why they will not let it go. Perhaps they would accept something of equal or greater value in trade?

  • Perhaps, though the emerald is a royal heirloom. What could we offer them?

An item of value to the Dwarves that has little to no value for our people. An heirloom or trophy of war perhaps or something only a dragon can obtain.

  • Do we have something like that?

We don't, but I think I know where something could be. Many centuries ago Dragonkind and the Dwarves fought a terribly, bloody war. Many died on both sides, but in the end we were victorious and Aughundell burned.

  • They probably hold a grudge against us?

That is very likely. Like Dragons, Dwarves have long memories and they do not easily let go of past wrongs. Nevertheless, our ancestors took many treasures from the ruins of Aughundell as plunder. Much of it is buried in ancient hoards or lost beneath a thousand years of detritus.

  • Perhaps we have something of value that was taken so long ago?

Return to Ahassunu and tell her of Gulnor's decision

Exactly! I have visited the hoard chamber of one of our eldest, Ristef, and have seen the treasures amassed there. Ristef is old, <player>, and spent many years beyond the Gate of Embers. I do not know for certain if Ristef was present for the war itself or inherited the relics, but I have seen many that appear to be of Dwarven origin. Perhaps one of those would suffice. You should speak with Ristef about it.

Welcome, <player>, what brings you before this Council?

  • <You tell the Elder about Ahassunu and the Emerald.>

A bold plan, <player>, but with one small, potentially troublesome, wrinkle. You see, the plan would require me to part with an item from my hoard. Fortunately, I can see the wisdom in Ahassunu's request and the potential benefit to Dragonkind as a result of this exchange.

  • Thank you, Elder.

You are most welcome, child. Now, Dwarves are inherently greedy and they will feel the need to get the best end of this bargain. Take this figurine, <player>, it will surely be of sufficient value for them. Before you go, know this, this figurine was given to me by my father as it was given to him by his father before.

  • Surely you would not part with something sentimental?

Speak with Ristef the Peacemaker in Dralk about a Dwarven relic for Ahassunu

I do not part with it easily, but I have no one to pass it on to... If it will help our people, then I will consider it a fair trade. Go, now, before I change my mind.

Return to Gulnor the Elder in Aughundell with the figurine

Game Feedback: Gulnor isn't here. Guards may know where he left.

Ask a guard about Gulnor the Elder

Gulnor? I have seen him going to the Royal Treasury. You have just missed him.

Hello again, <player>. What can I do for you?

  • <You explain the trade offer and hand him the figurine.>

I... I... <player>, you have left me speechless. This figurine... It is Brobbet, yes, but it is more... Can you hear it speaking to you? Whispering the Codex of Laws... Yes, yes!

Meet Gulnor the Elder at the Royal Treasury

<player>, this is a gift beyond any other. An item long believed to be mythical by my people, the Word of the Law-giver herself. You may borrow the Emerald of Dahm'a'mun for as long as you wish.

Game Feedback: He shakes his head as if to clear his thoughts.
