Quest text[edit]

Game Feedback: Vannes tells you, Please, <player>, I am not here to fight. My time is done and I wish to explain and atone for the actions I took against my people and against my friend, Jolan.

Game Feedback: Vannes tells you, Thank you for that at least, <player>. If you will permit me to tell my tale... Please?

  • I am listening.

Game Feedback: He smiles, but it is tinged with sadness.

Game Feedback: Vannes tells you, Again, thank you. You see, the three of us have been friends since we were barely out of the den. We wrestled and played outside of the den together and were rarely apart. Later we scampered all over the town, getting into the type of trouble that the young often do... Once, we were even chased out of the market for sampling the exotic foods and another time for trying to catch a peek of foreigners! Eventually, we outgrew the market and the town and began exploring the slopes of Amu'merras, the beaches and even the Deep Forest.

  • Sounds dangerous.

Game Feedback: Vannes tells you, Yes, it was, but we were young and thought ourselves invincible. We had a number of encounters and scrapes with the crawlers, beetles, wolves, and even the Agh'kuk, but we came through all of them unscathed. In retrospect, these encounters merely emboldened us and we took more chances and sought out greater dangers, continuing to believe ourselves to be untouchable. We were sadly mistaken.

  • What changed?

Game Feedback: He stares off into the distance.

Game Feedback: Vannes tells you, Life... everything. We grew up, <player>, and we learned of money and women and all of the things you give no thought to when you are young. Looking back with more clarity I don't think I was ready to let it all go, but what can you do? Time marches forward heedless of our desires.

  • Very true and profound.

Game Feedback: Vannes tells you, All I ever sought was to be respected, by my family, my friends and the townsfolk, the way that my friends were. Everyone looked to Jolan and Illinos as the future of the Saris, the best and brightest, while I was left in their shadows. A wise Saris once said, 'Of all the forms of wisdom, hindsight is the least merciful and the most unforgiving.' I thought it a joke, a poor saying, but I see the truth of it now.

  • You cannot change the past.

Game Feedback: Vannes tells you, No, you cannot, and now here we are. The best and brightest of the Saris, dead, and soon to be forgotten. I feel intense remorse for what has happened to my friends. Forgiveness is all I want now, forgiveness for such a dumb mistake that has cost everyone so much.

Game Feedback: Jolan tells you, I forgive you, my friend. We are here, together, and now none of what we were so concerned about before matters. What matters now is finding peace with ourselves.

Speak to Vannes

Game Feedback: Vannes tells you, T-thank you, my f-friend.

Game Feedback: He bows his head, tears falling silently, and slowly fades from view.

Speak with Jolan

Game Feedback: Jolan tells you, He was a dear friend. I had no idea he felt as he did all of these years. He was my brother in every way that matters, but one. Farewell, Vannes, I forgive you and you will be missed.
