"Farmer" Idamon remembers your feats of saving Sslanis from the threat of the Giant Chickens and El Caliente. He needs you again for a mission involving a new kind of chickens...

Quest text[edit]

Ho, <player>! I'm so glad to see you. Please, listen to my plea!

  • Master Idamon. Are your chickens on a riot again?

No... no... that's not it. You see, my good friend, Ballantor, who lives at a farmstead near Morning Light, has sent me a letter: he tells me that during a walk, he found some eggs next to a large hen. She was badly hurt and was going to die. There was nothing he could do for her, but he thought he was lucky enough to eat big fresh eggs for dinner. However, he noticed the eggs were fertilized and the chicks seemed to be alive.

I gave him one of my giant hens some years ago. Now, she's too old to lay eggs, but he never had the heart to put it into the pot. He thought she would probably be able to brood them. So, he tried and it worked!

However, the chicks were... different. Starting with a ferocious appetite and a really fast growth. As it was an unusual race, he asked me in his letter if I knew what they could be. I took a look in several books I own, but I found nothing matching his description.

While passing through Sslanis to sell my products, I took the opportunity to speak to Ssthar the Elder. He may know something about these chickens.

  • Did you really think he would know a lot about chickens?

Sslik are knowledgeable about many topics, especially about nature. Anyway, I had no risk asking. After listening to my questions, it said nothing and went to its own library to fetch an old book. To my surprise, this one was about mythical creatures. It told me to read it very carefully.

I was pretty skeptical, but I consulted the old tome once at home. This old Sslik was right: Ballantor's description was matching Vorpal Chicken's one. This is a very aggressive race of Giant Chickens. Roosters are especially dangerous. So, I wrote to Ballantor to tell him to get rid of them as soon as possible.

  • And now you need me as a messenger?

Not at all. The letter has been sent for weeks, and I haven't got any news since.

  • Do you really need me to go there? I know you were scared with the Giant Chickens events in the past, but that wasn't a major threat. I dealt with it, so I am well aware.

<player>... you are the fifth one I want to send there and nobody has returned yet. A Gifted may be required to find out what's going on there... and act consequently.

  • They are only chickens...

You don't understand. Vorpal Chickens aren't only chickens but killing machines! For them, you're only a piece of meat and blood they can feast on. They would attack you without a warning. I hope to be wrong and all is fine at the farmstead. But I don't really believe it. Please, go to Ballantor Farmstead to know what happened.

  • All right, I'll go. Where is exactly this farm?

Istara be praised. You will find it south of the community of Morning Light. Follow the east road along the seaside to the south. At your right, you will have a dirt path that leads directly to the farmstead. Oh... one last thing, <player>...

  • Yes?

Speak with "Farmer" Idamon

It may be wise to not go alone... good luck.

Go to Ballantor Farmstead and find out what's going on there. The farm is located south of Morning Light. Follow the road along the seaside until you reach a dirt patch leading to the farm.

Game Feedback: You could see some giant chickens next to the road. They're not welcoming to say the least. And now you are in front of the farmstead... or what's left of it.

Enter the ruined farmstead

Game Feedback: All you can find is a mess. Furniture is all upside down, broken or burned.

Inspect the east side of the room

Game Feedback: You find one of these gnomian essence lamps shattered on the floor. It is probably what started the fire that partially burned the house.

Inspect the west side of the room

Game Feedback: This place has been less damaged by fire. You move a broken chair and notice some puddles of dried blood in a corner, but no corpse around. "Farmer" Idamon was right: something grim happened. Suddenly, you hear like cackling...

Locate the source of cackling

Game Feedback: A Vorpal Chicken has appeared out of nowhere and attacks you!

Defend yourself and defeat the Vorpal Chicken

Game Feedback: That was a close one. You haven't found any corpse because they're probably in the stomach of these horrors and you were the next one on the menu. The threat is real and it is time to end it.

Free Ballantor Farmstead from the Vorpal Chickens threat

Game Feedback: The last Vorpal Chicken has given its final breath. You look behind you at the destroyed house and sigh at the tragic fate of the farmer and his family.

Kill the rooster Bisalk the Bloodthirsty

Game Feedback: This was a tough customer. Take his head as evidence for "Farmer" Idamon.

Take Bisalk's head as an evidence of your deed

Game Feedback: You put the bloodied head in your bag. This should be sufficient evidence for "Farmer" Idamon. Don't forget to kill the other Vorpal Chickens if not already done.

Kill fifteen (15) Vorpal Chickens

Game Feedback: You have killed sufficient Vorpal Chickens. Don't forget to kill the rooster if not already done.

<player>; you are back! Tell me what's going on at the farmstead.

  • You were right. Vorpal Chickens have invaded it.

Invaded? Have you found Ballantor? His wife? His children?

  • I'm sorry, but they are presumed dead. The farmstead is destroyed and I haven't found anyone, only blood. Not even your old hen. They have all probably been eaten.

What a ghastly fate. If only I could have sent them some real help earlier...

  • That's not your fault. There is nothing more you could do. You can't blame yourself to not have tried because you have.

You are right. I guess.

  • The Vorpal Chicken threat is over. Here, take this: stuff it and hang it above your fireplace.

What is this? Urgh... what a horrible sight! Is it a Vorpal Chicken rooster?

  • That's right.

Game Feedback: You hand him Bisalk's head.

This head is even blackened with dried blood. And these eyes... they are nearly glowing as if it was ready to jump at my throat. Eeek... I'm going to burn that immediately before it gives me nightmares!

  • <You chuckle.>

Return to "Farmer" Idamon with the bad news and the Bisalk's head

Please take this <player>, with all my gratitude. It's not much considering the danger you have been through, but I couldn't find better. I hope to see you again, you'll always be welcome in my farmstead.
