Now that you are a Scholar, Jaspine wants to begin to teach you the basics.

Jaspine tells you, Did you know that spells are made from not one... but two magical energies? When you craft a spell, you start off with a couple of basic stone bricks. There is nothing magical about these bricks; they are made the same as any other bricks. Then you start to add the magic, carving in the most basic of runes upon the surface of these bricks. The basis for the magic is there, but no magic exists yet.

Jaspine tells you, Before a brick becomes a spell, it needs to be imbued with a different kind of magic. A more specific one, such as Life or Primal magic. Of course, if you have no learned to use this magic, the spell is just a brick with some energy filled drawings on it.

Jaspine tells you, Do you follow me? Good. Here, take these beginner tools; they are pretty shoddy, but they'll get the job done. If you ever lose them, just talk to me and ask about equipment or gear! Now, as for your first task...

(You have received formulas and tools! For formulas, find them in your inventory (I) and right click them. Select 'Scribe' to add them to your formula book (F).

For tools, right click them and select 'Equip' to use them or click the '/' button in the creation window to equip them automatically. Alternatively, drag them into their slots in the equipment window. (Ctrl+E))

Jaspine tells you, Go and gather me twenty-five Sandstone Slabs. Using the Mining Pick I gave you, you should be able to gather some from the Sandstone Outcroppings around here. Take your time and come back to me when you're done!

(Approach an outcropping and right click it and choose 'Gather'. Alternatively, click the 'Gather' button in your action window.)

Jaspine tells you, Fantastic! These will do just nicely. Now, take those, and go to the Stoneworking shop behind me. Using the Stonecutter, process the Sandstone Slabs into Sandstone Bricks. Once you do that, move to the Stoneworking Pedestal and craft those five Sandstone Bricks into one Sandstone Spellshard.

(Open your formula book (F) and double-click the formula name to open the product selection. Choose Sandstone Brick to open the creation window. From there, adjust the creation amount to what you require with the slider on the left.)
